Question

Wow! I was really interested in hearing about the new InnoDrive series from Innogear. So far they have announced a Memory Stick drive, which I assume will only be used for memory expansion, but what about a Compact Flash drive? We know it can be done, someone built one and was taking orders on these boards. I would have placed an order, but without a warranty or any assurance that it won't screw up my Visor, I wouldn't get it. Now though...if a company releases one with a warranty and good software...I would definately get it. Imagine having the ENTIRE contents of PalmGear on your Visor...or unlimited (essentially) AvantGo channels...Wow.

actually, there is a 2MB limit on avantgo channels that avantgo places on the account for server overload reasons....unless you have multiple accounts syncing to your visor!

Yeah, I was referring to the multi account "trick" for this one.

This is the third time I've tried to post this, and it keeps getting shorter.

I just returned from COMDEX this afternoon. Innogear had a booth at the memory stick pavillion and had a demo of the the memory stick module. The memory stick sticks out a little bit, but the new version of the stick should fit flush in the module. They had a few demos at other booths.

I also took a few jabs at the company, but they took it in stride. They know how badly they got flamed on the boards, but it was mainly because sales was promising stuff long before the engineers could get it to market. The company is mainly engineers so you can imagine how frustrated they must have been.

They are planning to have a compact flash adapter out Q2 next year. It should be about $80 but don't quote me. We also talked about the pros and cons of the Microdrive. I'm not sure if the module will be type I or II compact flash.

I also got to see a demo of a minijam I wasn't supposed to see. I'm not sure what was different about this one. It was ice colored and had two MMC slots.

They also had a story on the 6pack but I'm really tired so I'll have to post it some other time.

Innogear huh ? I thought that they got flamed to death already ?

OK so like you were at COMDEX talking to an Innogear guy who I would assume was a sales guy of some guy in order for him to be there and he said that it is a problem with there sales and marketing departments promising things that cant be delivered. (Wouldnt it make sense to fire people who do that) ......

There is only one standing rule of thumb that applies to innogear : "I will believe it when I am holding it in my hand." If they say that they've got a memory stick springboard. Great. Wonderful. But utterly bullsh*t until I have it in my hand. The six-pack for example does not exist. And anyone who says anything differiently is a fool. It will continue to not exist until innogear can provide sufficient proof that it does exist. Much like extra terestrials and bigfoot ; anything is possible but for the most part utter bullsh*t until sufficient proof can be provided. I have nothing against innogear. I am sure that their products are great. I dont own any of their products yet. With the exception of the minijam (which a friend of mine purchased) they dont make anything useful. Hopefully they will make something useful soon.

As a matter of fact, I spoke with the VP sales. He was relatively new because he mentioned something about being hired recently (I don't know what happened to the prior sales rep). He also put a stop to the announcements being made long before products could be put to market.
So they had a few missteps in the past. It's not like Handspring executed perfectly in the beginning. I waited 10 weeks to get my visor deluxe, but I like it so much I've long since forgiven them for the shipping snafus.
I will also believe Innogear when I have the product in my hands. They claim the main problems are in on the manufacturing side (they outsource that to a Korean Co.) so you can believe whatever you wish.

The more bashing everyone does to all these module manufactures the more you will not hear about ANYTHING new until it is in the store! Do you realize that it is editors jobs to get you info BEFORE it is released? Do you understand that YOU-they types that love to trash companies are also the ones who LOVE to receive top secret info!

Get real, you guys are going to make a site like this very boring when there is no "really new news"

Hey, sassyvisorbabe, does your twin sister, hotvisorbabe also work at Innogear in the PR department?

You say that like it's a bad thing. Compare the case histories of Innogear and Good Technologies, and judge for yourself.

Red face

Ok bill, you are right. You waited 10 weeks for your Visor. I can see how that compares to now a 13 month delay for the Innogear 6-pack. 10 weeks.... 13 months... Yea, that is about the same amount of time isn't it?

Hey bill, hooked on math worked for me too!

In case you missed what I said earlier:

not bashing advanced knowledge

Sassyvisorbabe: its not about bashing. It is however about advanced product knowledge. Infact in innogears case it is way way way way advanced knowledge. I personally like advanced product knowledge of things that I can have. Currently everyones main ***** with innogear as is evident in everyones posts; Is that no-one wants to hear the massive amount of hype created for innogears products if they are not things that we can get. Everyone likes advanced product knowledge of things that we can have. No one likes to be hyped up and told that they can't have things. Its like taunting a dog with a peice of meat until it doesnt want it anymore.

While I've wanted the SixPak from the beginning, with the pending release of the Thinmodem+ in January (fingers crossed), it is no longer on top of my wish list. The only problem I have with the whole InnoGear saga is that the SixPak was announced long, long ago (in a galaxy far away... ), yet they have pursued, announced, and released other modules along the way without any clear answers on the product everyone seem(s)(ed) to be clamoring for. I agree with the dog and meat analogy. It's unfortunate and I only hope they find a way out of the whole mess... they do have some innovative products and I thought by now they'd be the market leader for Springboards.

you know if this whole Memory Stick Innodrive pans out the way it sounds, I might be willing to shake Innogear's hand. If we'll be able to run applications of the sticks and in the future use Sony camera/GPS/etc. sticks, i'm all for it! I'm purposly not looking at any announced release dates for this module...just to prevent possible disappointment.

Screw AvantoGo.

Go download PenDragon from :
http://www.pendragon-software.com/browser/

Use the Avantgo Bypassed links from :
http://members.bellatlantic.net/~blumax/plinkit/ And

http://www.sitescooper.org/sites.html

or you can load up Perl and Sitescooper scripts and make your own channels etc. (hasn't try it yet due to lack of bandwitdt on download.

PenDragon is much smaller foot print then avango. Channel are unlimited you can download entire internet and view it on your visor if you want to.
