-- Pro or Prism? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=18526)
Pro or Prism?
I'm planning on upgrading my Palm IIIe to a Visor Pro or Prism.
Any suggestions on which way I should go?
(if the Pro was in colour I wouldn't need to post this thread)
Will I have any challenges when I install the new desktop and sync with the Visor?
On a more somber note.
I was outside the U.S. consulate in Toronto the other day and there are thousands of flowers, messages of sympathy and support for you folks down south.

There are instructions for upgrading and AFAIK you just need to HotSync your IIIe, upgrade to the Handspring desktop and HotSync software, then HotSync your Visor.
As far as which way to go... If color is important to you get the Prism, you could always buy a MemPlug or other memory expansion springboard to get more memory. However if you're not interested in doing all the color related stuff, such as nice pretty games, and movie watching, then go with the Pro and save the money for Springboards. Personally given the choice I'd take the Prism.
Hey Kenny
Geez...Pro or Prism...
Good question.
Personally, when I switched from my Palm to my Visor Platinum, I didn't have any setup problems at all. Everything synched over! Actually, I was amazed at how easy it all was. But man oh man. I should have sprung for the color! I could have bought the Prism, but I had a hard time parting myself with the extra money for color. But to be sure, when the price of the Prism comes down just a smidge more...I will have one!
Color is really awesome, and there are only more and more applications that are being optimized for color Palms. Sure there is a price difference, but my advice is that if you can at all part with the extra dough...go for the Prism.

P.S. I feel at home with geeks like you.
Prism....color is awesome.
Personally, COLOR, COLOR, COLOR! I have items color-coded in DateBk4, show pictures, play games, etc. - I need the color.
*BUT* if you plan to use the PDA outside a lot, or for extended periods of time (away from a charger), get the Pro.
I have a Prism and I love it. (I keep trying other PDA's but they go back to the store, and I go back to my Prism. Come on Handspring, where's my Hi-res, reflective screen, 16mb, smaller than Prism, SD/MM slot Visor? I won't mind an adapter for the existing springboards, IF there is a smaller built-in slot for more memory.

Go for the prism. Once you have color, you'll never go back!

Doesn't the pro have a rechargeable battery as well?
quote:Yes, but color needs more juice than monochrome. Having used different PDAs, I found that I could go for over a week (heavy use) with a rechargable monochrome, but I have to charge my Prism every night.

+ Monochrome is just plain weak for a new handheld. What would you rather have? Greyscale nudie pics or 16 bit color nudie pics?
