-- Flash RAM module (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=14935)

I have just installed a 16MB flash RAM module on my VDX. My hope is that I will be able to move large applications to it and thereby free up internal memory. I have used the file mover app to do this but get the warning that this might cause the application to crash.
Has anyone had trouble with this? The particular application is the 5 Minute Clinical Consult. I had read that the Palm OS can only address 8MB of RAM. Is this the case? If so, does this mean that accessing the 16MB in the module is analogous to DOS addressing memory above 640K? Or is the addressing direct and seamless? If not, is there some hack I should use to avoid program crashes?

Thanks.

The warning is a standard warning that you see each time you move a file and is not specific to any given program. Most programs can be run from flash RAM, some cannot. I do not know of a list or anything listing those that can and those that cannot. You want to avoid copying databases or files that need to be updated or written to to flash RAM because those will cause crashes. Personally I have successfully run the following from the flash RAM in a ThinModem Plus module: Converter, CSpotRun, Documents-to-Go, Browse-It, MultiMail Pro, One Touch Mail, File Mover, and thinkDB. I have also run a number of games that I am not going to list. As long as the program does not need to be written to, it should run from flash RAM.

With regard to memory addressing above 8 megs, I do not have that information.

I have the Hagiwara 16 Meg module. The Palm OS has no problem reading all memory in the module. Pathdoc is correct. Don't move a database that needs to be updated, such as documents. Most applications run fine from the module.
