- Springboard Modules (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=10)
-- omniremote consumer IR springboard (universal learning remote control) (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5006)
In one of Handspring's press releases ( http://216.35.16.11/pr2.html ) they mention Pacific Neotek, maker of the omniremote program and hardware. Currently there is no mention of a forthcoming omniremote module for the springboard platform on Pacific Neotek's site, though. I emailed them and inquired if / when they were going to put the module out. The rep that responded was unaware of any such plans, but stated that their developer probably had a "nondisclosure agreement" which would prevent him from making the details public at this time.
I'm excited about this prospect, though, because the layout of the visor and it's springboard slot, would make it an ideal candidate for universal remote control use. Without an enhanced transmitter like the neotek unit, the ir ports in pda's tend to be too weak to be useful and / or placed in positions on the devices that make them difficult to use for this task.
I agree that the springboard would be great! I've tried omniremote for my PalmIIIx, but the transmitter's just too weak to be effective. An omni-remote would be great especially since it will be a learning remote.
BTW, in my opinion, I'm sure that omniremote has the module in development, but it's just too early for them to say anything. It wouldn't make sense for them to not make the module, or at least sell the rights or something. But I could be wrong.
I have only one opinion on this subject (rare for me!):
If Pacific Neotek does not make a springboard remote, SOMEONE will.
I couldn't make OmniRemote 1.14 work with my Visor. The PDA is supposed to beep when you hit it with the remote, but the handspring doesn't seem to see the remote. I'll ask Pacific NeoTek, and post the results here.
