Installing Palm OS 4.1 To Visor Deluxe

I have got the Palm OS 4.1 Software upgrade and I was wondering how to put it into my Visor Deluxe, but as I see, i cant upgrade any version to the Visor Deluxe. I heard that it was possible to upgrade the Visor Deluxe's OS Using a third-party software. If there is any or if anybody knows how to upgrade my current Palm OS, Please answer this. Thank You very much for those who help me. By the way, my current Palm OS is 3.1H3.

I've always heard you can only update Visor software to Version 3.5xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, but if you find a way to crack this nut, then my hat's off to you...

The highest OS upgrade for a Deluxe is 3.1H3. Visors don't have flash ROM, so you can't install a newer version of the OS.

That is as high as you are going to go. All of the Visors used a non-flashable RAM to hold the main OS. In addition to that, HandSpring came up with a method of applying patches, that resided in main RAM, to add small corrections and updates to the Visor line. This is the part of the version that is represented by the "H3" in your version number.

Palm used patches long before Handspring existed. My old Pilot 1000 was "upgraded" to Palm OS 1.0.6 and had the Slimcal2 calculator patch.

You do realize that the same people who started Handspring after they left Palm (Jeff & Donna) also had started Palm and had invented your Pilot 1000 too.. So Handspring really is just an extension of Palm anyway, or rather was, but now its been acquired back so to speak.. For the most part there really is no difference (or rather was no difference) between the two.. it really was the same people the whole time. Just thought I would mention that as I found your response sorta ironic..

I do realize that. I bought my 1000 when U.S. Robotics owned Palm. They spun off and became the independent Palm Computing again, then Dubinsky and Hawkins left to found Handspring; now Handspring has been assimilated by Palm. How quickly it all happened... competition sure did improve the breed, though.

That having been said, Palm OS patches did exist before Handspring did.
