-- Calling UPS for tracking number... (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=397)

Exclamation

Based on someone else's suggestion in this forum (I forget who) I called UPS to try and get a tracking number. When I asked for the information, the lady paused for a minute, and asked me if I had the package. I told her that if I had the package, I wouldn't NEED a tracking number. She then let me know that she would need a tracking number from me, before she could give me any information about a shipment (?!?).

Ignoring the fact that this woman was quite obviously brain dead, I again stated that THAT was the reason I was calling... to get a tracking number. She asked me for "the shipper's customer number", and when I said I didn't have it, she took Handspring's name from me instead.

At this point she found Handspring listed under "Mountain View, CA", and asked me for my zip code. After giving it to her, she told me that Handspring HAD NOT shipped anything to my zip code on Friday, Monday, or even Tuesday. Guess it's time for me to give Handspring my first, "Where in the system is my order???" call.

I did the same too and got the same "I do not find any record of attempt in shipping to your home address." Aaarrrrrgggghhhh. All of this suspense is consuming.

Question

Hmmm... maybe someone who has already received their Visor could call up and try the same ploy? I'd be interested in seeing whether or not they're told "Handspring hasn't made any shipments to that zip code."

If they WERE to receive this kind of a response, it would mean one of two things:

1.)The Mountain View, CA listing for
Handspring that UPS has is actually
for their corporate HQ, and is used
only for business purposes (NOT for
product shipment). Perhaps UPS
has ANOTHER listing for Handspring
in Fremont, CA (which is where I
believe the Visors are shipping from)
that we should try instead.

2.)UPS customer service is just trying to
blow us off.

I can't really say UPS is at fault. Without a tracking number, it would be very difficult to find the package. They ship millions of packages each day. I would hate to look through it.

A tracking number is the easiest way to find something. I, personally, would never expect an accurate response from UPS without a tracking number.

I would tend to think that the packages are being shipped away from the HQ, and therefor have a different corporate identifier.

Then again, if handspring is using a third party wharehouse for shipping the product, you would need to know thier name to get the appropriate information without the tracking number.

I have a feeling my hasn't shipped. I order two - three weeks ago (I can't remember the date), ad added stylii to my order monday.

Hopefully it will not cost over $270.

The ABC News story on Handspring back on 9/13 showed the HQ. It didn't look like they had any wharehouse space at all. I bet they are shipped from somewhere else nearby. (Probably a fulfillment company of some kind.)

You NEED to have a tracking number to track a UPS item. They don't search by sender or receiver.

If you have a tracking number you can see the routing on their web page.

The problem is that HS does not send out the tracking numbers.

I know from MiniDisco that their fullfilment agent in MA send every customer an email with the tracking info. To me it looks if HS does not use a fullfilment company and ships the stuff themselve.

Thumbs down

When I placed my order (now 5 weeks ago), I was asked for an e-mail address for the purpose of issuing confirmation e-mails. A great deal of confusion might have been avoided by Handspring sending these e-mails with UPS tracking numbers included.

Or, as an alternative, Handspring might have provided UPS with our e-mail addresses. Then, if Handspring had "an UPS OnLine compatible shipping system" (UPS' verbiage), UPS would automatically send e-mail messages notifying us of the shipper's name and address, tracking numbers, and projected delivery dates. I receive these notifications all the time from other shippers, and the system works great.

Lightbulb

I know. Let's all call UPS about our orders and see if we can't paralize their system too!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Ouch, ouch. I can feel the flames already.

For those of you trying to call UPS for tracking the Visor is being shipped by:

Fulfillment Center
48021 Warm Springs Blvd.
Fremont, CA 94539

Spelling is correct etc. I'd bet that UPS can't find your Visor because Handspring is not listed as the shipper.

I received my Visor and this info is right off the box not the invoice.

Hope this helps!

Moose, I'm surprised. Fulfillment companies are usally very organized.

I would be VERY VERY CURIOUS to hear their story!

Question

This fulfillment shipping address is for:
http://www.logistix.com/

Maybe they are the cause of Handspring's problems
