-- Yikes, found a crack in my Blue Vdx! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11768)

Posted by srwdc1 on 02-12-2001 07:10 PM:

I found a small crack in my VDX. in the Blue top cover, just under the on/off button. (under the button, on the side, the crack extending from just under the button to where the blue-top and ice-bottom meet.)

I purchased it 11/99. Is it still in warranty?

Probably doesn't affect the functionality. Should I care?

Thanks.

Steve

Well, the spot your crack is in is the weakest of the top case. It was the spot most likely to crack. There are instant-glue variations available to repair plastic, if it's open enough to bother you.

Call Handspring, though, to see if they'll replace it for you. They have a great reputation for service, and might surprise you with a new one.

I found a similar crack at the same spot in mine (also blue VDx) maybe three months ago. The crack grew out from the on/off switch straight down to where the top half of the case meets the bottom half and then stopped. It is almost unnoticeable and has no effect on the functioning of the unit. So unless the crack on yours looks really bad (maybe travelling up the side of the unit), I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a similar crack in my green VDX. Doesn't seem to affect it though.

Unhappy Same Here

Yup. Mine has had one since Day one. Doesn't bug me tho. As long as it still works I don't care.

Check this thread. Mine had a crack which became a chip. Then the Cover cracked also. Plus it had the DRAM bug which affected battery life.

I had mine replaced, and am glad I did.
