-- Biggest pet peeve (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12476)
What is your biggest pet peeve? That little thing that drives you nuts when others do it?
I would have to say that mine is when an able-bodied person uses the elevator to go one floor when they can take the stairs. I work on the 4th floor, and you wouldn't believe how many times someone gets at the 2nd floor when I'm going to the first floor. If I worked on the 2nd floor I would never use the elevator again.
Sigh. I feel better now.

Old Friend
Having lame email forwarded to me is a huge problem. Even harder is trying to broach the topic with the offenders, who are friends ("I thought you'd love that!"). I set my filters to trash any header with "Fwd" and told everyone as much. It's amazing how effective that is, now that the guilty have to edit the headers. Fortunately, forwarders usually CC their junk to a bunch of friends at a time, and don't want to be bothered editing another copy just for me.
Pet Peeves are for the immature.
Pet Peeves are for the immature. If you have them you are letting the actions of other people add stress and tension to your life, even though there is little you are likely to do about it.
I could get irritated at my students for never cleaning up after themselves in the workshop. Instead, I realized that the mess irritated only me, and so I started cleaning it up. The students, seeing the example I led with, began cleaning up after themselves. The other professors asked how I got my students to clean up. Not by telling them to, but by showing them that I clean up, and it's worth doing.
I could get upset when someone fails to signal a turn, or leaves a signal light on. But I realized that it is MY interpretation of the law that made their failure to abide by it upset me. Instead, I'm happy to just make sure that I signal, and always turn my signal OFF if I'm not turning. It's all I can do, and it's enough.
The 4 year old son of a woman I dated liked full glasses of whatever he was drinking ("Full to the top, Mom!"). He tended to hold them shakily and occasionally would drop the full glass. It made me nervous to watch him carry a glass. I could have insisted that he not carry full glasses, and reprimand him for dropping them when he did. Instead, I told him about how I used to drop glasses as a kid, and the tricks I learned to prevent it: 1st, I'd sip some liquid off the top before carrying it. 2nd, I'd hook the little finger of one or both hands UNDER the glass, so that even if my grip slipped, the glass would not fall thru my hands. It took him a day or two to "master" my trick, and he hasn't dropped a glass since.
Don't expect others to live by your standards, and you won't be disappointed by them. Set a good example, and if you're lucky, you'll influence a few of them to change their behavior. Don't point out problems unless you can suggest a reasonable and preferable solution or alternative. Stepping into another's shoes occasionally helps you see the world from their viewpoint. You may suddenly see why they do what they do, and understand and forgive.
OK, I'm sorry for preaching. It occurs to me that I may become YOUR pet peeve. So nevermind.
Dave ;-)

BAd E-mail.. YUCK! That's why I filter my e-mail, and bad e-mail is sent to the Junk pile, while REALLY bad e-mail is deleted without me looking at it..
I am one of those people who use the elevator to go one floor, because Elevators are fun! (I'm still a kid!)
I can't drive yet, so I don't really care about blinkers..
I have to kick myself.. You should add.. People who Post on VC with nonsence in there post, jsut to rack up points. (damn! wasn't me!)

The Elevator!
What I ticks me off more than people riding the elevator up one floor are those people that riding the elvator DOWN a single floor!! Even the laws of physics argue that you are not doing any work traveling from a higher point to a lower point.

"Everybody don't like something and we all don't like you." -- Richard Thompson, Hard Luck Stories
I hate it when you are surrounded by incompetent people and/or people with no common sense. It really shows what this society has come to.
Disclaimer:I hope no one takes this offensively. It is not meant for anyone on this board, but I have come to realize how much the above is true over the past few days.
What an awful subject. Especially after DBrown's lecture I feel especially immature. Here is my list:
To, too, and two confusion
Not replacing the toothpaste cap (I don't like hair on my toothpaste)
I have my feelings about forwarded junk (Bill Gate will pay me $5 to every person I forward this to and then Nissan will give me a new car and the Post Office is trying to tax email...) and turn signals and toilet paper (it better roll off the near side instead of the far side) but they pale in comparison to my to, too, two and toothpaste peeves.
Grrr
My biggest pet peeve is those people that abbreviate their entire sentence when writing a message. "Hey! Wud U like 2 take ur car 2 da store cuz i need 2 get sum food N hav 2 stop by da Post Office and drop off sum letters. thanx!" I mean It doesn't make reading it any faster! If Anything it takes longer to read!! Oh well.

My biggest peeve is "personal spaces". I hate it when people throw stuff on my desk or when the wife & kids leave junk piled on it. Similarly, I can't stand it when someone picks up my visor and says "Hey, can I play / see / check this out." Do what you want with your stuff and your space, but leave mine alone unless invited. (Yes, I do feel better..

I hate it when someone misplaces the godbox - also known as a remote. Of course, I've got OmniRemote on my Visor, which helps, but the range sucks.
