-- Any Updates On Innogear MS Adapter? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=14576)

Question

I remember hearing a while back that someone was going to be coming out with a memory stick adapter for the Visor. When I looked it up on the modules page, it said Innogear would have one out Q2. I checked Innogear's web page and didn't see anything about an adapter. Does anyone have an update on this?

I don't know, but that's pretty typical of Innogear, the king of vaporware.

Wait till another company releases it.. I am sure one of the CompactFlash or Portable Innovation Technology Ltd. (the MemPlug folks) companies might be working on one as well..

Just hold on, wait for another company, I think you will be happier in the long run.. Especially after the SixPack (killed without ever releasing) & MiniJam (reduced/missing features when shipped from originally stated features) product release problems..

Thanks, EricG

Good advice, EricG. I was a little skeptical about Innogear after waiting for the SixPak but it was the only vendor in the module page here at VisorCentral that listed a Memory Stick. So, I think I will wait.

Not much choice to wait anyways

One thing about Innogear products is that it seems as soon as, or not too long after, they finally release a product to the public another company comes out with competition for it. The InnoPack 2/v was followed by the Memory Access Springboard. The MiniJam was followed by the SoundsGood. Infact, it could be argued, that the competitor's products are superior.

I think the Memory Access springboard would have to be a real product in order for it to be considered competition, right? Does anybody actually own one of these? I'm still waiting for Palmgear to have it in stock.

Granted, I haven't been in the Visor world for too long, but from what I can tell, this product appears to not have been released yet...

Well, it used to be available - I know several people on the boards had one and Global Access used to have them for order on their website (www.123global.com). Whats happened since then I don't know...Since it looks like you can't order it anywhere.

I have a Memory Access that I got as a review unit last August. I was downsized one day before I was able to post the review (as karma would have it, the dot-com that did that to me went bust two months later). My first experience with the unit was negative. Some of the defaults for alarms (vibrate or LED) were set to vibrate, and I left the module in the Visor overnight; and even though I don't remember setting any alarms, the module ostensibly drained all the power in my Visor so complete that all the data was wiped out. Normally drained batteries left in the Visor will usually preserve the data for a week or two. If you must use the vibrating alarm, do it very selectively.

Incidentally, the MA may not be a competitor. It looks identical to the Innopak 2/V, and I believe it's identical, feature for feature. InnoGear probably OEMed the design to Remote Solutions, along with the InfoMitt pager module.

To tell you the truth, the feature I was most interested in was the LED alarm capability. I am hearing impaired, and I don't carry my Visor on my person often, so I think that a visual alert would be the most effective tool for me.

Does the Innopak 2/V have an LED alert capability, and is it supported by Innogear?

Posted by sdoersam on 05-02-2001 03:53 PM:

The Innopak/2v is not the same product as the Memory Access. The Innopak/2v does not have the blinking LED, and does not have as many vibration options as the MA. (Can't be set for games, etc.) The Innopak/2v is basically and "on or off" vibrating module with 2MB on it.

Uh, actually, no. I was wrong: it's not completely identical. The Innopak 2/V is only Flash memory and a vibrating alarm, with no LED. On the other hand, it's shipping.

I have a Memory Access Module. It's sitting in my cabinet.
It works and everything, I just wish there was a 'All three' option for the events so an alarm could, Sing, Vibrate, AND blink. Without that it's not that great. Plus I have an Edge now so I don't use SB modules as much as I used to.

That's weird. I saw a FAQ earlier today from what I think is the new Global Access website (http://www.wirelessspringboard.com), and in it they specifically stated that the Memory Access module could do all 3.

If Remote Solutions did OEM this from Innogear, I guess they might have licensed their marketing practices too

Ouch! Can you imagine the licensing agreement? Maybe they could get some $$$ back from Innogear in the form of negative royalties for all the business they would lose from following such a business model.

p.s. I love your avatar, mblair!

Available In 7 to 14 days , just as soon as the six pack is ready for pre-ordering.
