NiMH
Just picked up the NiMH batteries and charger at Compusa this weekend. Using battery meter hack and gadget hack to monitor.
So far, quite happy with it. Heavy user, with multiple syncs during the day, but it charges up fairly quickly, and when I want to replace the batteries, I'll look for 650's or 700's.
The charger is quite neat - works on AC with an adapter plug, and DC from a car lighter socket.
Cheers!

My Batteries
I use the Rayovac rechargeable alkaline system. Get pretty good battery life. I started this because of all the battery operated toys that my son has. I was buying stock in duracell just to offset my losses. I haven't had to buy a single battery since I made the switch. I always keep a second pair of fully charged batteries in my kit in case the "production" pair runs out of juice.
Batteries
I've been using rechargeable alkalines and they've worked out quite well. They were cheap and the only option at the time because there were no NiMH batteries anywhere at the time I bought my Deluxe. I plan to switch to NiMH though because they last longer, but I'll kill of these alkalines first.
I've used rechargable alkalines from the start, and now I'm looking into a custom NIMH/solar charger combo.
Reading these posts makes me want to switch to rechargables. My wife works at a hospital and was able to get these cheap-o batteries that doctors use for their pagers, at no cost. The problem is they had a life of about 12 hours! I am currently trying out the e^2 batteries from Energizer and am not impressed -- they don't appear to have any longer life than normal batteries.
