-- IR Sync with a PC? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=7900)
I would like to IR hotsync with my PC. The last thread seemed Mac related. I need to know what IR port people would recommend to buy (I don't have one on my PC yet). I'm looking for the best bang for the buck. I downloaded that free IR sync software, so I should hopefully be good to go on the Visor end. Also, when IR syncing, do you set the hotsync prefs to USB or serial? I guess it depends on what format IR port you got for you PC? Thanks!

Yup.
I think I would not advise this, if you want wireless synchronization from your PC to your visor, Using IR is not really that advisable because IR sync really depends whether your visor is within the optical range of your IR device... I don't really know how far that is but think its just a few feet. Another consideration is the speed of the sync, I tried syncing mine using BeamSync at 115kbps, sounds fast... but not really fast enough, That really strained my batteries.
The best thing that I am hoping for right now, is that if the promised Bluetooth and 802.11 compatible modules to come out, that will then be a dream come true(surfing in the john with my visor,
he he he).

Yes, it is slower than serial or usb, but if you are using a laptop, it is better (for me, at least) to use IR since you don't have to pull out the ol' cradle several times per day.
I think I have a net gain in time for that reason. I just have to change batteries more often.
