Has anyone been sucessful in getting the above combination
to work together? I've been able to get GSMTool, ptelnet,
MultiMail and AvantGo to work, but cannot send a ring tone
to my phone using MonkeyTone (demo) ...
MonkeyTone gets to the point of "waiting for ACK"
then dies and says that I should check my service center
number, which I have of course.
The number works just fine with GSMTool ... not sure what
I'm doing wrong - please help!

Thanks

I have the same problem. I emailed Primate Systems and they told me that I need an SMSC that can handle 8bit messaging. They also told me that Voicestream is in the process of upgrading their network to support this requirement. I can't send myself a picture message from my 8290, so I'm assuming that it is a problem with the network rather then the phone/vdx/software.

I have talked to Voicestream, but they don't know their head from a hole in the ground. I did gather that they use several different SMSC numbers, so it seems to me that some of them may support 8bit messaging, while others don't. Primate Systems did tell me that their software does work in some areas with Voicestream service. I guess the solution is to first find an SMSC that supports 8bit messaging and then to convince Voicestream to let us use that number.

My understanding of GSM/SMS is minimal, so I apologize for any terminology errors.

Thumbs down

Thanks, that sounds plausible to me.
I live in the New England area and can't send
picture message to myself either (from phone)

And I agree, VStream doesn't know _blank_ from _blank_!
I have, however, had one discussion with a competent
network engineer there, but only after dealing with the
aforementioned not-so-competents.

Oh well,

Thanks!

I agree with you both regarding Voicestream incompetence! I cant tell you how frustrated I have become with dealing with Voicestream customer service. The reps are typically young females who are completely clueless. I had to call 3 times to get my e-notes service activated each time the girl would tell me in a fake pleasant voice that the service would be activated and then the next rep would tell me that "no the service has not been turned on ...I dont know who you talked to..." I demanded to speak to a supervisor and I was put on hold for 20 minutes before I hung up.
