Talking

I have been playing with TealMovie over the weekend on my Visor Prism and was very impressed!!!! I mean wow!!! I captured a minute long clip from the new sci-fi series "Andromeda" and after processing the clip through TealMovie, BAMM!!! a Palm not only playing video but audio as well . . . . truth be known that the sound capabilities are not so good in palm devices. (Sounds basically like a built in pc speaker)But I could hear Captain Hunt(Kevin Sorbo) talking to Tyr. TealMovie will also play movies stored on external ram. (Kudos to Teal for recognizing that need)A lot of ram is need to store these clips.

You can convert avi's to play in 8 bit color or greyscale on you visor. Ofcourse greyscale fils are smaller. Color movies will still play on all BW/Grey Visors. (VS, VDX, VPL)

Hopefully because of TealMovie, Handspring will take the lead again and innovate the palm platform with 8 or hell 16bit sound.(please include heaphone jack so as not to annoy others on train ) Also add more ram to the Visor devices like maybe another 8MB to 16MB internally. And If handspring really wants to go all out. . . come out with a tv tuner SpringBoard.

Anyone else impressed with TealMovie?

Yup! After reading James review, I had to go get that StarWars Episode 1 trailer and convert it. The avi was like 14mb. I was kinda skeptical about converting it to be able to fit to the Prism. Just for the heck of it, I set everything to max settings for quality of picture and sound. The file size shrunk to 3272k. That's still ENORMOUS, but I managed to cram it in via hotsync!

My ONLY wish is that it would have a 16 bit color option. There is still some blocky coloring that the 16bit color settings would resolve. Maybe I'll drop the good 'ole folks over at Teal a line to see if they will be supporting 16bit color in the future.

BTW, that YF-12c Blackbird flight film that you can download from the Tealmovie site is verrry cool too.

Thumbs up

I've been enjoying our home movie we took with our digital camera. They're short-each one is anywhere from 150 to 300k in TealMovie format. You don't have to invite people for dinner anymore to show your home movie

I guess its cool from a "gee-wiz" point of view, but I wouldn't want to try to impress a PPC user with it.

A headphone jack is a definite need, but I would really like to see is a springboard with a couple of good speakers in it. If I wanted to show a home movie to people, I'd rather let them all hear it at once, rather than letting them all stick my earphones in their ears. Then I might also get some use out of that microphone too(anyone own a PC with a mic and no speakers?). I'd love to be able to download new videos like I do web pages and read/listen to them during my commute. But without some intelligible sound, I don't see a practical application for it yet.

Cool

Has anyone done this mod yet? It looks pretty simple to do. Now if some innovative Visor user in the States could modify them that would be great.

I'm not comfortable letting anyone drilling a hole into my Visor. Wouldn't this void the warranty? I think the solution at http://www.fureai.or.jp/~mori-t/111...earphone_j.html is a much better idea, although it still requires tampering. Neither of these look extremely complicated to perform, so why didn't Handspring do it? Do you think this would actually give the full-bodied sound of a legitimate speaker, or would it just amplify the tinny visor speaker that already exists?

Talking Teal Movie's Cool

I've been converting old home movies to AVI's and thought what the heck, I've got photo albums why not home movies on my Prism. People's jaws drop. What fun. The ear phones would be great. How would I order an adapter kit from Japan?

Arrow Impressed

I am always looking for new and innovative Palm OS software from TealPoint. They make excellent software. Have any one tried TealPaint? With TealMovie, this company is taking the Palm PDA to another level.

NOw its time that someone come up with a movie or TV-Tuner type module.

Posted by bkbk on 01-23-2001 05:53 PM:

TealPoint kills.
If any SW has "Teal" in title -- get it.

I, too, would love a TV Tuner (& FM, please!).
It'd save lots of need to store a ton of programs on your PDA!
And THEN the iPaq & other 'CE users would just die!

Question

Hey people! Where do you get this TealMovie software from??
