NOTE: You may need to register as a developer with Handspring to access the following links.
First go to http://www.handspring.com/developers/sw_dev.jhtml
and download the Handspring PalmOS GNU Tools consisting of three components:
1. Cygwin
2. PalmOSGnuTools
3. Tools Patch
Also download HandspringHeaders35Win.exe.
Install the three components in the order listed accepting the default install dirs for Cygwin and PalmOSGnuTools. Once the Tools_Patch zip is extracted copy the new headers to the appropriate directories as instructed in the readme.
Now run HandspringHeaders35Win.exe to update the headers in the Handspring directory.

Platinum ROM with USB
When I start up Palm-Debugger this is what is in the debugger window:
Initializing parser...
Initializing lex...
Installing keywords...
Initializing eval...
Initializing exec...
Loading startup script...

When I enter debug mode on the visor platinum, I hear a tone and then see a flashing cursor at the top left, but the tone doesn't stop.
When I execute:
save "visor.rom" 10c00000 200000
I get this:
Error: not attached to remote.
Can someone please explain what I can do about this problem?
Luciano Mota Coelho
CmdGetRemoteState: error in SlkReceivePacket = Serial Link timeout.
I am experiencing similar problems as those before. I have the latest tools in the right location (except the Tools Patch which I could not find. I set the debugger to USB, restart the debugger. I can put my visor deluxe in debug mode just fine. After I do that however, nothing happens. When I say "att", I get the following error: "CmdGetRemoteState: error in SlkReceivePacket = Serial Link timeout." I also tried typing in "attached=true". The source bar changes color, and then when I try to save the rom file, I get the same error 3 times.
Any clues?

I love Visors
one thing nobody pointed out about saving the Palm ROM
The buzzing noise you are supposed to get from your Visor when you go into debug mode won't happen if you do the shortcut-dot-dot-7 while the Visor is in the cradle. You must do it in your hand then put it in the cradle. This may be why it doesn't work for some people.

will this procedure work for Palms?
Does anybody happen to know if the procedure to extract Visor ROMs through USB will work to extract Palm 5xx ROMs through USB? Are the addresses the same? Different? Is there another procedure to use?

help -- wrong rom version
bert12 - I have the same problem. Which version of the POSE do I need to get. My ROM version on Prism is 3.5.2.H1.4. I would like this ROM version in POSE also...
Jim
Download the latest version of POSE from Palm (v3.4 I believe) and then download the POSE from Handspring to get the Visor skins.
Install the POSE 3.4, and then copy the skins from Handspring's POSE to the POSE3.4 skins directory.

Imabug,
I just installed the POSE from Palm and copied the skins folder into POSE folder. Ran Emulator.exe ask about creating a new emulator session. I brought the ROM image in. changed the device and skin and RAM size. Error Message I get is
"Could not create a new session becasue the given configuration infromatio is not supported by the version of the Palm OS Emulator"
The configuration is
Rom File Visor.rom "This is the Rom Image I downloaded from My Prism"
Device Visor Prism
Skin Standard-English
Ram Size 8192K
Not sure what to do now
Jim
Hmm, can't say as I've ever run into this problem before, but I don't have a Prism ROM to play with. Have you tried it using the Handspring POSE?

Imabug,
I have tried Both Palm and Handsprings POSE. I am using the debug Method for getting my Prism ROM.
this is the command I type in the debugger from Handspring
save "visor.rom" 100000000 200000
goes through the % count and return then I copy the ROM file to POSE folder
Jim
Phooey.
So close but so far.
I'm doing my best to follow the directions but, alas, no joy.
Everything works fine up to the point where I type in
code:
save "prism.rom" 10000000 200000

Does the ROM via USB trick work with a Treo? How?
Has anyone tried the ROM via USB capture trick with a Treo (keyboard version)? If so, how do you get the device into debug? Does it work?
Thanks
Does the Treo keyboard have a shortcut symbol? If so, couldn't you use that to use the debug shortcut?
Hmmm... yes, I got that to work, however, the ROM file that I got from the device doesn't work with the Handspring POSE. Any ideas?
Treo ROM from this method doesnt work with POSE. Help
Ok, so I downloaded the Treo 180 ROM and tried to set it up to run with the Handspring POSE. I get the error "Unhandled exception caught in WinMain. Dying like a log..." Can anyone help me here?
The end of the thread blues
I bought my Treo 270 about two weeks ago, and I've been trying to figure out how to get a rom image since then. This forum is where I finally ended up, since there is NO information anywhere else on the net about downloading the stupid rom image!
I have already faxed the form for the rom to Handspring and haven't gotten any response.
I was excited when I started reading through the thread when people started mentioning the Treo, but then the end of the thread arrived with no help on getting the Treo rom to work with Handspring's POSE!
I can successfully download the rom image, I used the Disassembler to confirm that it does indeed start at 0x10000000, but when I try to run the Rom image, I get the "dying like a log" error message.
Is there anyone on the planet Earth that has downloaded and successfully ran the Treo 270 Rom image?! (or the Treo 180 rom image for that matter)?
