Q: Installing software larger than Visor memory?
Hi! Quick question:
What exactly will happen if I try to install a software program that is larger than the 2MB of memory in my Visor? I ordered a 16MB Hagiwara flash module and I was hoping to put one of those dictionaries on it, like Noah Lite (120,000 words, ~5 MB) but obviously it won't fit on the Visor. Is there a way to get it directly onto the memory module, or do I have to seek out a friend with an 8MB Visor, have him install it, and copy it onto the module for me?
TIA
Short answer:
Yes.
Slightly longer answer:
You can't install a program larger than what you currently have available on your Visor. I have a Vdx, and a 8mb module. I am constantly adding and subtracting programs from each. To install a 1628k Mapopolis map of Harris County (TX) onto my module recently I had to move programs back and forth from the unit to the module, and back again.
You need help from a kind friend.
Good luck!
Michael
PS nothing bad will happen if you try to install too big of a program. You will just get a message in your Hotsync log that says the install failed. Your Palm Desktop will keep the program onboard your PC and try to reinstall next time you sync.
