-- Should i get the 16MB flash module or wait for a smart media adapter? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12348)
i really need more memory for my visor. I'm deciding if i should get a 16MB flash or an adapter as i have a 64MB Smart Media card. I'm wondering how well the two perform. I've read reviews for both, but still not sure which to get. I like the idea of being able to use some apps while they reside on the flash module, but would like even more memory so i can backup too. Also do maps, pics, books, phonebooks, and web pages work directly from the module? And is there a way to download directly to the module? How fast are the adapters? Thanks a lot for your help guys.
They are really two VERY different types of products..
With the flash module you can access anything stored on it (read only).. Your Visor's apparent over all memory will be something like 24mb.. (like I said you can run a program directly off the card and it will appear in the application launcher screen)
With the SmartMedia (or even the Compact Flash) adaptor module, you have to use a FileMover application to copy the program or data into the Visors main (8mb) memory first before you can use it (or even see it for that matter).. The Visor won't be able to see it on the card.. You visor will still only have 8mb of memory... however you can copy what you want to/from the card allowing you to easily choose what is in that 8mb of ram at any given moment in time.. but it's a manual copy process, not automatic.
You have to decide which method would work best for you..

I was probably a bit vague, yes, you do have to copy the files to the 16mb module to get them there. (the assumption was in both cases the file is currently in the Visors 8mb ram and that a copy process was the next step), but the point is once it's copied you can access it/run it from the 16mb module.. when a file is copied to the "media" card, it is not visible (until you copy it back)..
