I heart OS4

I have been using my older palm units quite a bit lately and realize how much I actually like OS4 over OS5. Hacks and DA's oh my. Batteries that seem to last forever. Applications under 100k. I guess the only thing I don't really like using anymore is the hotsync. I'd much rather copy a program to a SD/Memory stick and move it over rather then go through a sync process.

looking at axim

i still like my visor prism, but i'm looking at a axim x50v simply because of the fast processor and the high resolution.

Yes, the newer faster machines are nice too. I'm starting to get the upgrade bug myself but so far none of the current devices have me overly thrilled. The Palm TX looks nice but having seen it in stores it has a "cheap" feel to it. The Lifedrive is just plain out of my price range and I could never go ppc.

i don't think i would go with a harddrive (livedrive).
i think the majority of the pdas are rams as their main memory.

My upgrade from a Tungsten E was a Tapwave Zodiac 1, just before Tapwave shut down. No NVFS problems here. If I put a 2-gig card in each slot, I have as much storage as a LifeDrive--but with 32MB of real RAM.

zodiac

i forgot about the zodiac.
i believe there were two models.
which one did you get.
i came close to buying it.
is it a good model.
that gives me something else to look for in ebay.

There are (were) the Zodiac 1, with 32MB of RAM (that's what I have two of) and the Zodiac 2, with 128MB.

Olympic Systems is selling "demo" Zodiac 2s with reflashed ROMs (so they operate like normal Zodiacs) along with a returned unit (for the battery) for $125 + shipping. They have a 90-day warranty if I remember right, and the demo units were hand-selected for durability, since they were to be store demo units. They also ship with the CD, charger, stylus, HotSync cable, and flip cover--all the stuff a new Zodiac came with.

Originally, the demos weren't supposed to have a battery installed--that's where the returned unit came in--but lately, they seem to have been putting the battery in the demo before shipment. (The back of the demo also has a hole in it, where a bracket was to be attached and a power cable run in, so switching backs with the returned unit would give you a hole-less Zodiac.)

not much

i visited ebay and didn't find much on the zodiac.
if i bought one it would have to be a good package with lots of games.

I haven't looked in quite a while for Zodiacs on eBay. Actually, I got my first one through amazon.com and the second from a friend who got it from eBay but realized he didn't need it (got his original one working) just as his bid won. No games with it, but a backup unit for $106 is fine.
