-- Handspring Pen Stylus? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3656)

Question

Three questions really:

(1) What does everyone think about the Handspring Pen Stylus sold on the site? I really want a stylus to keep in the silo--the stock stylus is worthless.

(2) What's this Handspring Deluxe Stylus that people are talking about? It isn't on the site. Is this metal casing version of a stylus being shipped standard now? Or is the Pen Stylus and the Deluxe Stylus one and the same?

(3) Is there are third party stylus that fits in the silo that anyone would recommend? I've heard of something called the "Black Nail" but don't know what or where that is. *I'd really prefer a pen/stylus combo so I don't have to carry a pen with me in a pinch.*

Cool

I came across a stylus that fits in the Visor that I kind of like. I got it at http://www.pdapanache.com.

It does stick up from the unit about 2 mm. But I haven't found that to be a problem. It might even be that "nail" style you were speaking of. It is metal, it's available in black or chrome, it DOES have a reset pin, and there is a lifetime replacement warranty on the tip.

Cool

The HS "deluxe" stylus you've read about is also referred to as the "premium" stylus on the HS web site. I have a stock stylus, the "premium/deluxe" one, and the one from PDA Panache.

I really like the way the one from PDA Panache feels, but I like the looks and how the premium stylus from HS fits into the silo. The PDA Panache model does stick out from the top of the silo, but not so much that it annoys me. The stock stylus has received so much bad press about it scratching the screen that I never used it.

All in all, I prefer the PDA Panache stylus.

I haven't tried the PDA stylus, but I'm quite pleased with the Handspring pen stylus. It's got a place to put the cap when you're using the pen so you won't lose it, a re-set pin, and designed so the stylus won't roll away.

I didn't realize how bad the stock plastic stylus was until I bought a replacement.

Thumbs down

Wouldn't it be great if they would sell the Stylus 5-pack in a SINGLE color, so you could get a set of replacements that ALL match your Visor? Sheesh.

Cool

I only ask this because I'm an amazingly paranoid soul. The pen/stylus combination from Handspring. Can you get refills for the pen? If so is it terribly terribly expensive?

Just something I would want to know if I were actually to buy one.

Always remember, just because your paranoid doesn't mean that the world really isn't out to get you.

Don't even think of touching the PDA screen with the stock stylus. The stock stylus is junk. It has already scratched the surface. I'm thinking about exchanging it for a new one. Get the PDAPanache. Very good. I don't know why I didn't get this in the first place. Well worth the 14.95. What's cool about this stylus is that it also "clicks" into place in the silo.

Thumbs down

I have used both the stock stylus and PDA Panache, and I have found that they both scratch equally. When I compare my Visor screen to a friend's Palm screen, I am amazed that his screen has no scratches, but my Visor does.

Is there something wrong with the Visor screen?

I just got my Visor Deluxe today. I must say i like the factory stylus with the screwdriver and the reset pin. I'll leave it in the silo, just in case. My stylus of choice for the palmIIIe I used before I got my Visor is the 3 in one unit by Pilot, with the all metal construction. I intend to keep using it with the Visor. Using it for writing has improved my accuracy a great deal.. well, that and using wrightrights on the screen.

Question

This thread was about the Handspring pen/stylus combo? Has anyone actually bought one?

Just got one with my VDx today. It seems okay so far, not as heavy as the deluxe stylus that came with the Visor though.

I'll update once I've gotten a chance to use it more. I'm mostly expecting to use it for signing receipts, etc.

How far does it stick out of the silo?

How do you actually get to the pen tip?

It doesn't really stick out of the silo. If I run my finger over the top I can feel a slight bump, but that's it. It fits very well.

You get to the pen tip by pulling the stylus point off. You can then attach the stylus point to the post on the back of the stylus so you don't lose it.

I can make some scans of the deluxe stylus versus the pen stylus this weekend if anyone is interested.

Hellion_Prime, the factory stylus isn't the one you got. The factory stylus is all one piece black plastic. You received a "premium metal sylus replacement". Those are FAR superior to the factory stylus you thought you received.

I haven't tried the combo pen/stylus. I would think the pen would be a little to small for my liking.

Ah, I see. It's nice, all the same. I much prefer my pilot stylus/pen/pencil for normal use, however. A full sized pen made a marked improvement in my accuracy.

Question

Can someone please posts some pictures of the pen/stylus combo from Handspring?

I hate to complain but can we try to stay on the thread topic?

It seems that almost NO ONE has bought one of these pen/stylus combos from HS. Anyone?

Does it fit into the silo like the stock stylus?

Thanks in advance!

Corky:

Have you seen VisorCentral's review of the Visor Pen Stylus? It even has pictures.

Here's the link:

Red face

Thanks for the link. File that under: "Right beneath my eyes".

Color me red.

STILL... I have an additional question and would really like to hear from someone that ones one of these Handspring Pen Styli.

Q: The review said that it SEEMED as if the pen did not take refills. Is this true?

[If so, then there's NO reason to buy this item because once the ink is gone, you're left with a stylus that's not as good as the PDA Panache or the Deluxe Stylus from HS.]

"Say it ain't so, Joe!"

I just love how the HS styli have the little clip-like top that fits into the slit in the Visor's silo.

For anyone that missed the review from above (thank you Visor Central!):

Question

I'm still not clear on one thing. The picture shows a stylus with a button on top that extends past the top of the stylus, above the end of the "clip" that fits into the slot in the silo. Does it slip down when it's in the silo, because it looks like it would stick about 2-3mm out of the top and catch on the edge of my belt pack...
