"KEEPING THE POWER ON IN THE CRADLE

One of the advantages of a device with a rechargeable power supply as opposed to one requiring external batteries is that you can leave it in the cradle while you work. If you were to leave a PalmPilot Professional or Palm m100 in its cradle, the device's two AAA batteries would quickly drain."

I thought that this "drain" was disproved, both in this Visor forum and in Palm forums I have seen. I had a PPro before my VDX and didn't think it was an issue. It sat in the cradle for 5-6 hours each day. Its replacement (for my bride) is a Palm IIIxe (Visors would not have fit in where she works).

I have 3 Qs:
1) Does Steve just want us all to switch to a rechargable platform?

2) Is there a real battery drain design flaw?

3) Did he post this because he subscribes to an urban legend?

When the Visor is on there is power drain (up to 15 mA)because the USB chip sees the PC USB hub. Serial cradles do not have any power drain because the USB chip is off all of the time.

I find that while at work, it would be counter-productive to leave my VISOR in the cradle as I actually use it for refrence/notes throughout the day, this means it needs to be ON MY PERSON, not sitting in a cradle 3 ft away (or down the hall). In my real life, the recharge would probably occur at night....

Again, give me AAA's or a swappable battery pack, it's much more comforting.
