That could very well be. I have a friend who tarnished literally every metal that's in contact with his body for more than one day, excepting only titanium and gold. Even silver gets "a sticky film that won't rinse away."

What is really sad is, I went to CompUSA to see if they had the "New" models and since they didn't I played with the ones on display. The Edge that was on display had tarnished buttons and was locked up, you couldn't even turn it off.

Umm...no? I was simply stating that differing body chemistries might explain why some people's buttons tarnish and others don't. For example, leather watch bands usually don't last me very long at all. Within a few months, they're usually cracking and brittle and need to be replaced. The chemical composition of my sweat evidently reacts poorly with leather, but reacts not even perceptibly with stainless steel. Tarnish

The phenomenon you're seeing is a combination of oxidation of the aluminium surface of the Edge's buttons, combined with natural oils (present in your skin). It won't harm the unit, and should polish off with a soft cloth without too much trouble. Anodising, painting or other forms of coating stop this happening, but it would seem HS left the buttons 'raw' for their shiny look.

after all the *****ing I've done about the tarnish problem I did find a fix for it all. Go to your local home/kitchen store (ie Bed, Bath, & Beyond) and get silver polish clothes. The cost about $10 for a dozen or so. They are throw-aways but you can get a lot of use out of one cloth. Simply rub the buttons and the tarnish comes flying off.
