I finally got my Prism that I wanted sooooo badly yesterday. I have been following this discussion and found that after only 24 hours of use I get to throw my name into the ring as having a paint problem with my Visor. I love the product itself, just don't like this paint problem. I will be sending a e-mail out to HS after I have had a good nights sleep and can think straight.
Thanks to this group for the great inflormation and now that I too am a owner I will understand this group even more

I'm upset, but not angry.
Instead of getting upset, let's be more constructive and send emails to Handspring and complain, but please, don't shout.
Shouting only makes a valid gripe sound like a rant.
Speak softly but carry a big stick.
PS. bkbk, you are still alone in your class action suit as far as I'm concerned. Please do not post here again. You are not helping at all.

[and ... some other user:]
....
I disagree totally with bkbk's approach, which is to attack. (And I'm perplexed--s/he doesn't even own a Prism!) Of course it is natural to be frustrated and angry. But I don't think that everything has to be a combat.
I have found that most companies who really are concerned about quality and serving the customer--like Handspring--really do appreciate customer feedback. I have had personal correspondance with Donna Dubinsky to help correct a problem. That is impressive. We don't need to yell, shout, threaten, nor demand. Most of the time we just need to inform and ask. I think that we can clearly express our frustration without being combative. Keep in mind that you are dealing with people, too. They like to be treated with respect also. You will find that most of the time, you will get good treatment when you render good treatment. (What goes around...) If one finds that not to be true, then maybe some honest internal reflection on one's own attitude and approach is in order.
All I'm saying here is: Let's be helpful.

Handspring (lackluster) Response
This is what I wrote to Handspring:
quote:
How does Handspring plan to remedy the issue of paint rubbing off the Prism and Platinum under normal use?
Visor Central has at least a couple different discussion threads highlighting many, many complaints from unsatisfied Prism and Platinum users. I currently have a Platinum and am still considering jumping up to the Prism. But, given the comments on VisorCentral about paint jobs, I'm quite reluctant and am keeping a close eye on my Platinum's paint job.
This issue has been discussed since shortly after Handspring released the Prism and Platinum, but I have yet to see on VisorCentral any response from Handspring (either directly or quoted from Handspring email to a VisorCentral user). I'm a little concerned that you disregarding this issue. It may not seem like much, but it really doesn't make much sense. Why does the paint rub off a $450 Prism, but a $149 Visor Solo has no such problem? (No, the Solo doesn't have a paint job to worry about, and maybe that's the point.)
Again, I would just like to know how Handspring plans to remedy the issue of paint rubbing off the Prism and Platinum under normal use? Thank you for your attention and prompt response.

Thank you for your e-mail. We are aware of this problem and are sending out replacement organizers to those that have had problems with chipping or rubbing off of paint on our Visor Platinums and Prisms. We are trying to get this resolved so that is does not happen at all. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to call or e-mail us at anytime.

Name one product that doesn't have flaws. Send the visor back until you feel you got what you paid for (per the advertising, of course
).

"read: unless you are going to take legal action, stop your whining. Shouting here and there and complaining and getting philosophical and psychological isn't going to do much good. And while I can respect a certain amount of venting, it does get old when trying to up with real solutions posted here."
I'll respond to this post, because it was posed decently; I've already asked God to take good care of those who've made the insulting jibes at others' expense this New Year's.
You miss the point that "legal action" is hardly what is most relevant. Study human life, and you will discover that other things come before the legal system, and are much, much more powerful. The legal system is a makeshift piece of garbage that we need to take out, and replace with fair, impartial, non-biased, intelliegent A.I. computer expert systems (as I've covered elsewhere).
A GREAT DEAL OF THE POWER OF THE INTERNET IS THAT VIA FORUMS LIKE THIS WE CAN SIDESTEP THE LEGAL SYSTEM, AND EVEN DESTROY IT -- AND, UNLESS THEY TAKE THE INTERNET AWAY FROM US (WHICH THEY CAN ANY DAY THEY WISH, AS THEY CONTROL ALL THE GUNS, WHICH ARE, ALWAYS HAVE BEEN, AND LIKELY ALWAYS WILL BE, THE ULTIMATE POWER ON EARTH), THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
"Shouting ... etc." again shows little knowledge of the superstructures of human life and how they function on this earth. You'd do well to look into these, as it is probably quite literally impossible that they are not impacting your life (as well as the rest of ours) negatively.
"And while I ..." is just more of the same, again failing to see that this is in fact a solution. (And I've posted plenty, plenty others.) But worse than your previous assertion, you additionally attempt to censor others whose postings or methods you don't seem to like.
I'M NOT AFRAID OF ANYONE ELSE'S POSTINGS, SO I NEVER ATTEMPT TO CENSOR THEM ... RAMBLE ON AS LONG AS YOU LIKE; IT DOESN'T "PAIN" ME TO READ PAGES AND PAGES OF DATA (OR SKIP BY THEM) ... SINCE NO ONE'S FORCING ME TO DO SO. WE ALL (SHOULD) KNOW THAT TEXT TAKES UP ONLY A TINY AMOUNT OF BITS & BYTES. IT'S ALWAYS BETTER TO HAVE AS MUCH DATA AS POSSIBLE, EVEN IF YOU SHOULD HAVE TO (GOD FORBID) SEARCH THROUGH IT FOR WHAT YOU DEEM IS RELEVANT.

Since there is no official poll, this post is to register another "no paint rub-off problem". I purchased directly from HS one month ago and it was replaced after one week because the "down" button did not consistently work. I use cases but I take it out multiple times during the day to hotsync and/or recharge.
The only problem I've had so far is the keyboard popping up a little too often.

Agree
I agree, keep to the topic. I do hope nobody really believes that bkbk represents any teaching of the Bible.
Tan, I too have been patient with these remarks up until now, but this takes the cake.
New and very satisfied Prism owner with no paint problems so far

Well, I guess I'll add my story to the list.
I got a Platinum for Christmas, along with a Slim Leather Case, and a Fisher Space Pen Bullet Pen w/ stylus. i had been storing the pen in between the Platinum and the velcro strap, where the pen would rub up against the Visor. Today, just over a week after getting it, I noticed the paint has rubbed off in that location. I am extremely disappointed.
