-- First hard reset (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2587)
Well after 2-3 weeks of having my visor and not having any problems, I had to do a hard reset. Tunred it on one day and it had some system error, only thing that would work was about hard reset. I have no idea what caused it.
Well instead of reading the instructions I just went ahead and hotsynced it. Besides my address book, memo list, etc, it ended up restoring only a demo of JFile and no other programs. Even though I had done many hot syncs before this problem occured that installed many different programs. When I went to the delete list, there were programs there to delete, but were not showing up to use. So I reinstalled all my programs and and all the settings were the same in those programs as they were before the reset (like a timer program I installed, the timers were still set to the way before I had the hard reset. Even though the timer program wasn't on the visor until I reinstalled it).
I have since read the instructions on what I should have done, but things don't make sense to me. If all those programs were on my PC's back up directory, where did they all go and why did it still install Jfile demo?
Anyway not sure if this make sense. Could someone just explain to me how the back up system works? Thank you
It is my impression that normal hotsynch doesn't backup all the programs. It only backs up the databases for the programs and if you are lucky, some of the programs.
This is the reason that there are apps like BackupBuddy out there. It is shareware, but it has saved my butt before. I believe that there are some freeware apps with the same purpose, but I don't remember their names.
