Red Visor Edge purchase!

I'm very happy to have recently purchased a Red Edge (NIB) off of ebay.

Still my favorite PDA...and will be getting daily use from me....anyway, thought I'd add some chatter to the boards. And I'm excited to be playing with my new edge.

I've been thinking of getting a second PalmOS unit and have seen the refurb's on the Handspring site. Tell me why you chose to get a Edge now?

The refurb Edge is $129 on the Handspring site. What did you pay for yours?

I paid 135.00 or something....only b/c I wanted a Red one. the Silver & Blue are much cheaper as they were available from retailers...Red was only available from HS directly.

I liked the relative 'rareness' of the Red color, plus the Edge has been my favorite palm pda by far. Good performance, still super thin form factor, and I like the metal casing.

Its just a personal favorite of mine...in addition, I can sync it to my wife's 3Com Audrey, so she can see my work schedule as well.

i've had my edge for about a year now and i agree with all the great qualities mentioned above (including the Audrey bit...i'm typing this on my Audrey right now!)

infact, due to the size and metal case of my edge, it gets used (read: carried around) more than my first handheld, visor deluxe.

thanks for deciding to talk about the edge to get some talk going!

Even though I've always liked the looks of the Edge, I always wondered about that stylus. It looks like it would fall of if I put the device in my pocket. Is it more secure then it looks? The ones I saw on displays at stores never had the stylus attached so I could never tell.

Anyone know if Handspring puts new batteries in there units when they are refurbished or are they the original battery.

Compared to other devices, such as a Palm Vx, what is the battery life of the Edge.

Does the Edge seem as fast as the benchmark scores say it it??

It's the securest stylus out there. There's actually a spring-loaded clip holding it into place.

Should be roughly parity between those two. Monochrome devices are still the battery life kings by far.

Depends on what you're comparing it to. Compared to my old Deluxe, it was no contest. OTOH, comparing my Tungsten to it, it can't compete especially with ARMlet-enhanced apps. If you're looking for a monochrome device, though, there aren't many things that beat it.

I've never had a stylus come dislodged on its own on the edge. My Clie N760C's would fall out on its own, but with the spring loaded catch, its locked in tight.

On the Audrey side, I've got a Ocean one, that I'm thinking about getting upgraded...(www.audreyupgrade.com). Is yours still the original, or have you done the upgrade?

Back on topic...The battery life is awesome. I'd have to say that it also depends on what you use it for. If you play MP3's using the MiniJam or Soundsgood, you'll run it down fairly quickly. If its just PDA functions...its very good.

I, btw, have had about 30 pdas in the past 3 years...some PPC's (iPaq 1910 & Dell Axim currently), and lots of HS's & Sony's. I just keep coming back to the Edge for the Palm OS reliability, and the HS expansion options. Its mainly a personal thing. The Edge just 'suits me', I guess.

I also have the benefit of having the Visor -> Edge Stowaway keyboard adapter...so I was able to pick up a regular Visor keyboard pretty cheaply.

I just got that t-device Q-pad thumbboard the other day, only b/c I wanted to get one before they quick selling them completely.

Audrey (delorse):
I've got the Linen. Thanks for that link! I've read various websites that talk about flashing new images to my Audrey, but i've never seen a site that actually sells you the CF card! it's too bad their image doesn't include the improvement to the channel knob (i've seen an upgrade that lets you store your favourite website addresses to the channels on the knob!)

Edge (everyone else):

the battery on my edge drains about 20% after about 3 or 4 days of pretty good use (constant reference throughout the day plus project tracking and a game here or there to kill some time). So i'd put a vote in to say that the battery life is great!

the stylus stays in tight. the only thing to fall off my edge was one of the screws holding it together! Since then, i've unscrewed and then 'lock-tite' the others.

it's definately faster than my old deluxe (i've tested it with my wife's deluxe).

gotta love the metal case!

That would be the only thing missing on the Audrey Upgrade....I'm going to ask him about that one. Thanks for that.

I have an Edge (silver) and i love it. It's a 33MHz processor so it's definately faster than older models, although you wouldn't notice it in most programs.

My main reason for buying it is it's slim profile. I just can't be arsed to haul something that would bulge out of my pocket.

I used to have a Visor Edge, and sold it to get an IBM z50. I moved down to a Visor Deluxe, and now was finally able to get enough money to buy a Visor Edge again! I love the Visor Edge, it's such a great PDA for its looks and size, but also for its great performance. I've had color sonys, visors, and palms, but I just love the Visor Edge. Can't see why Handspring didn't work on a new color edge...
