-- Best Prism Launcher? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12366)
Launch 'em 3
Here is another thumbs up for Launch 'em 3. I did try Megalauncher II but also was not at all impressed. It bothered me how after installing it, it removed Launch 'em as my default application launcher -- presumptuous, I think.
Note: I have only used this product in beta and cannot register it before it goes GA. Therefore, I have no loyalties. If a better launcher comes along before they let me register Launch 'em, I'll consider it. Today, Megalauncher II isn't it for me.
Great thread -- The launcher on a Visor is a lot like the browser or even OS on a desktop.
One more thing -- when I did install Megalauncher for my evaluation I also installed the accellerator program (can't remember the name) that the manual said could automatically be accessed through MegaLauncher. I have been using Cruise control in the past (Have a Prism), and deleted that program.
I did a total set up of MegaLauncher including the accellerator -- and set it to maximum (like I do cruise control) and whamo - freeze. Soft reset didnt work -- I had to do a warm reset and remove the software.

Launch'Em 3.0 gets my vote. It retains that classic Palm look.

My vote is for Launch'Em3. I got used to 2.1 and when I purchased my Prism tried the beta - it's great.

I'm so glad I read this thread. I couldn't decide which launcher I wanted to try. After reading this I gave Launch'em a try and I love it. I will with out a doubt register for it when it is released.I love the way you can assign diffeent colors for each tab and text.

a lefty weighs in

I downloaded MegaLauncher II and installed it. It does seem very versatile, and I'd love to use it, but I've noticed a
couple of glitches if you use Lefty Hack.
I use both Lefty and Lefty Hack to get a scroll bar on the left of the screen (when applications cooperate). With MLII, it seems to be there, but not always work right. When using the list within a category or to change categories with a long enough list to scroll, the scroll is barely there. It's white actually, and so narrow that I end up launching applications when trying to scroll. I think there is not enough room for the scroll bar to work on the left.
When trying to use the clock to set a new city, the scroll behaves strangely - it seems to only scroll about the lower third of the list and is very difficult, if not impossible, to use.
I don't know if it is a problem with MegaLauncher II or Lefty Hack (or me!), but I'll probably drop a note to each developer and see if there is something that can be done. So far I haven't had these or any other problems using Lefty Hack, before trying the MegaLauncher II. MLII works fine, with the Lefty Hack disabled, plenty of room on the right for a scroll bar, but that kinda defeats the purpose for me!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really obsessed with secret apps, but I'm kinda surprised that nothing seems to offer this with a full-bodied launcher.

If so, then your process is still insecure because one only needs to bring up the Launch'Em "General Preferences" screen, deselect "Always Use Launch'Em," tap OK and then tap the Home silkscreen button to launch the standard Applications launcher. The only way that this could be changed would be if that option was hidden when private records are not displayed.

Well, using Launch'Em, if you make a tab secret to be hidden while the system "privacy" in set to "hide," and put the "Home" icon in that tab, there will be no exit to the standard launcher and the private apps. This really works, I do it myself. It will lock others out, unless you install MegaLauncher and have is disable all other launchers at startup, that is! There are a couple of programs also that will kick you back to the default launcher upon exit, though I can't recall which ones.
I'm not saying that Launch'Em is any kind of security tool, but the guy wanting Palmasutra to be hidden started the conversation, and for that kind of thing Launch'em is perfect. A situation like your kid, or mom, ect looking at your device. I didn't mean to imply that a power user would be locked out, but the original concern came from wanting a casual observer to be restricted to certain apps.

I'm gonna have to go with Launch'em. I've tried em all.
Silverscreen - eyecandy + some functionality
MegaLauncher - too busy
Commander - good security - lacks certain features(ie trashcan etc.)
Gobar - More work than the Palm interface.
Hanscape - It crashed
Plus many more that I don't even remember and I keep coming back to Launch'em. It may not be the prettiest Luuncer out there but it is the best.

I've also tried all the launchers. Launch'Em 3.0 gets my vote too.
It's by far the easiest to use and can show the most on the small screen.
Once I have my 16MB Prism and 16MB Flash, I'm going to need a launcher that can easily manage and organize all those apps!
Plus another really easy way to get to the default launcher is to just hit menu-Palm-apps/memory.

I'll have to go with Silverscreen. The newest (1.91) has added even more functionality and more eyecandy. I'm a big fan of eye candy. You can now see what db's are under the apps and I love the icons. I just wish someone would figure out how to make their own themes for it. That's a really cool feature that the other launchers lack. I like to change things around everyonce in awhile so I don't get in a rut. Technology is always changing so why can't I?
Anyway, I'm trying Megalauncher 3 at the moment. It's a nice change but I still prefer silver.

Has anybody had any battery drain issues when using a launcher? I've had my prism less than two weeks, and after reading this thread, tried Launch'Em 3.0. VERY COOL app. BUT, my battery power dropped from 100% to 70% in about 2.5 hours (about 1 hr of actual use) Is this to be expected? Should I do a battery discharge & recharge? I've searched the last 60 days worth of threads . . . I've found nothing at all about launchers increasing battery drain. Any and all advice will be appreciated!

Sure 'nuff . . . I'm starting to get worried now . . . I don't want to be sorry I got my *very* expensive gadget. I love it, and use it for work _every_ day . . . What is 'normal' for a prism? I mean, in terms of battery life?
Thanks so much for responding!!!!
