-- AppleScript? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10222)
Being new the Mac way of life, I've recently stumbled onto a seemingly powerful tool called AppleScript. Is it possible to write something that would enable hotsync that I could double click from the Finder, or have I missed the boat? If so, how would I set it up?

I don't want to initialize a hotsync, essentially I want to click on the radio button "enable" under Hotsync Software Setup. Click on Instant Palm Desktop -> Hotsync -> Setup... -> select "enable". I have my visor's cradle connected to a hub, and when hotsync is enabled I can't use anything else on that hub until I disable hotsync. Giving the cradle a USB port all to itself is out of the question because my scanner doesn't work unless it's connected directly to the computer. Do you know if that's feasible?

Well, now... that's a horse of a different color!
Sorry, but I know nothing about Mac's or AppleScript so I can't help you. Perhaps one of the Mac-addicts out there can shed some light on this for you...

I'm NOT an AppleScript expert by any means, but try opening the AppleScript Editor and record the steps you just described. I know that newer versions of AppleScript can automatically record a lot more applications than before, but it still may require that the application you are recording still be AppleScript-friendly.

You might also want to go to the applescript website at http://www.apple.com/applescript/ for some tutorials and a few premade scripts. I haven't gotten into Applescript very much, though I started to a few times. It seems easy, but it does require some learning. Let me know how that book is, I might pick it up if it's good.

Thanks for the link, lennonhead. I'll let you know about the book when I get it.

Well, whatever you do, you need to read this:
Goodman, Danny
Danny Goodman's AppleScript Handbook 2nd Edition, iUniverse.com Incorporated, 1998. ISBN 0966551419.
Got it for my (now antique) PowerMac 6100/66 DOS Compatible when first released. Took a few months to get through, but no one explains it better.
Thanks, fishscaler! BTW I'm still tossing around using up my mac's horsepower to search for your E.T.
