Question Back-up Visor

Is it really necessary to back-up your Visor other than HotSync? Also are there any solutions for backing up your Visor that you can do through the HotSync cradle since I don't have any spirngboard back-up (Except what stuff is on my Innopack/2V)?

There's BackupBuddy for the cradle, but you won't be able to restore from it away from the computer like with the backup module.

I don't believe that any third party apps you may have installed will be backed up to your PC or Mac in the hotsync process. So you would lose those.

Lightbulb Syncbuddy for the Mac

It provides a Finder type interface to the Palm while being connected over the cradle (or even IR). So you can actually drag and drop in programs and files, do a backup of the entire Visor and restore it if necessary. Works great - and its shareware though!

I think the module back up is great -- and relatively cheap.
If your PC gets messed up or you change something and hotsync -- a backup module would enable you to restore the PDA back to previous condition -- plus the back up mod can be stored seperately.

Also -- to back up apps etc --just use a file manipulation program -- like filz-- to change the back up bits to copy -- that will give you a full backup of whatever you want on the hot sync.

This is incorrect. Most 3rd party applications and data will be backed up to your PC during a hotsync without any additional software. And the few that are not can be made to, with any one of a number of free software applications that toggle the backup bit.

I have about 20 3rd party applications and they are all backed up to my PC without the use of BackupBuddy or any additional software.

BackupBuddy is a great application, and the backup modules serve a good purpose, but if you're on a budget you can easily get by without them.

What bregent says is correct.
What isn't saved, as far as I can discern, are some of the 'preferences' (BB calls them 'unsaved preferences') of some of the programs. So basically some of the programs, when used, alter their data without flagging a backup bit. These things would get lost. In general, I don't think they are critical, more like your last view on your launcher, or similar.
