Favorite State Quarter
I had hoped to run this as a poll, but you can only have 10 options and I would have needed 20. Personally, my favorite state quarter thus far is Rhode Island's (http://www.statequarters.com/Coinag...RhodeIsland.asp) and my least favorite Ohio's, or Pennsylvania's (Ohio can't claim the Wright Brothers flier, and Penn's is mind numbingly uninspired).
How are other people feeling? I like the program as I find myself checking change at idle times...which I never used to do.
i cant weait until yankee bills start being printed in different colors! wil you still call them "greenbacks"?

Actually they're claiming the birthplace of the Wright Brothers, and using the Flier as shorthand.
Not accurate anyway. Only Orville was born in Ohio. Wilbur was born in Indiana. (now, the last time I drove through Indiana ...)
North Carolina is using it as well, so it's just going to cause confusion to future scholars.

yeh, no kidding .. couldn't have used the Liberty Bell, could they, noooo ....
A lot of the designs are dull, though interesting when you first see them. I like the ones which include the state shape better .. though, hopefully Colorado and Wyoming won't do that.

I look more often ... I've been gathering bicentennial quarters for years now anyway (since ... uh, the Bicentennial)
It's a good thing if it gets kids more interested in state histories and traditions. It's a bad thing if the state tries to depict itself as what it's not.

Wow, I haven't even SEEN the Pennsylvania quarter till now, and yeah, it is massively boring. And the only time anyone from Pennsylvania ever sees that Keystone symble is on the road, either on license plates, or on state highway signs. This state couldn't do anything creative if its life depended on it.
In fact, now that I think about it, this could be a conspiracy against Philadelphia. Harrisburg HATES Philadelphia (Republicans vs. Democrats), HATES, HATES, HATES Philadelphia, and that could be the reason that the Liberty Bell or William Penn isn't on it.

My personal favorite so far is either Connecticut's or Kentucky's. Both seem to reproduce well, even though they're very detailed (particularly Connecticut's).
As for why a tree on the CT quarter, the tree is the "Charter Oak," where the state charter (and maybe country documents too, for that matter) was hid during times when the state was under seige.

I think Julius Erving's circa 1978 afro would have reproduced well.

There was a story on NPR last week about Mexico testing a plastic bill. Apparently it feels like paper but lasts a lot longer (obviously it is more expensive). The story said the US Treasury is watching the experiment closely and might consider it in the future with US bills if it is a success.
