-- New Poll: Do you need a more durable Visor? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11425)
This was inspired by a question in another thread. I quote my own response:
"How about a titanium replacement carcase for any Visor? You unscrew your plastic case, and put the parts in the titanium one. It may be little bigger because the inside has shock absorbing padding built in. A screen cover/sunshade is integrated into the design. With the cover closed (snapped shut), nothing will break your visor. Chuck it into the tool case with the hammers and clamps ifya want. Not a case for your visor... a tough replacement Visor skin!"
Pick one:
A) I could sure use one!
B) Silly idea. My Visor is tough enough already!
C) What's titanium?
D) Did I pick D? Oops, I meant A!
Thanks for responding!
Dave

Hehe, can anybody DIY it? I wonder =)
I could sure use one! looking at the silly plastic covers like "Smart Cover" really got me feeling very uncomfortable, can u bear to put ur Visor into that ugly thingy? =P I'm sure i wouldn't.

I'd like to see the Visors a little more durable.
When removing "flush-type" modules like the Backup or 8MB memory modules, that fit rather snuggly, I sometimes wonder if THIS is the time that I'll crush the thing.

I do NOT look wierd! I just look ... "different".
Definitely. I'd love a more rugged visor - particularly now that I've got my Geode. I sort of cringe at the prospect of taking my Prism/Geode combo hiking. This would solve the problem.
Count me in too. I'd like to see a metal case with some rubberized corners or other shock protection. I know it would be bulkier but I'd like something like the GPS that I have - water resistance (I live in a rainforest) - shock protection - style. I think the visor could have different models (case models) and I guess I'm thinking of the sport model. Kind of like the discmans that came out a few years ago - water resistant, shock resistant - more durable case...
When i first bought my visor, i thought the metal case on the V/Vx models were overkill. who needed a metal case on a PDA???
Now I understand. The metal case is one of the most important features in my book. Where I work, my visor is exposed to some interesting things (dusts, metal particulate, etc.) and it gets treated a little rougher than the average visor (i don't know this for fact but feel safe in saying it). So i've decied that my next PDA will definately have a metal case. Which means if Handspring doesn't offer anything (or if there isn't a 3rd party metal case manufacturer) I may have to swing for that nifty colour Vx with the SD slot in the future (and trust me, i'm NOT complaining!
)
So yes, i'd like it if somebody offered a metal case for a replacement shell to my visor.
Aluminum would be alright besides titanium.

Stealth-Mod.
good idea
Need one? Probably not, but I'd sure like it. It would be nice to have a tougher case just for peace of mind.

I'd consider getting one for hubby. I think it's more important for folks who want to carry their Visors in their pockets (vs. in a purse, bag or briefcase).
I wouldn't mind a waterproof "skin," myself.

Well, sure I want a more durable Visor. However, this is kind of like asking if you want more money; nobody's going to say they don't want a more durable PDA. The question, as always, is how much more durable are we talking about, and how much money?
