Cool

Just to let everyone know - the Visor Prism and Platinum are now for sale at Amazon.com, along with all the accessories, including the GameFace and the Prism Travel charger.

I ordered a Prism from Amazon on October 16th.
Order#: ...
Date: October 16, 2000 at 08:06 AM PDT
Status: Item(s) not yet shipped

At the time, the site said they were going to be "released" on November 1st. I checked a few minutes after midnight (PST) on 11/01, and it said "Usually ships within 24 hours". A short time later, they were backordered, expected to ship in "1-2 weeks". Now I see they are back to "24 hours". Hope that means mine is almost out the door.

Question

I've never ordered anything from Amazon.com. Is there some advantage ordering Handspring products from Amazon instead of directly from Handspring? It would seem to me that if anyone encountered problems with their Handspring product, returns and refunds would be easier handled if purchased from Handspring as opposed to other online merchants. Someone please enlighten me.

I order from Amazon all the time, but I've never had to return anything, so I con't comment on how well their customer services is on returns. I also didn't have to return the Visor Deluxe I bought from Handspring, so I've never gone through that either.

The reason I'm getting the Prism from Amazon instead of Handspring, is the price. I don't have to pay sales tax to Amazon (I'm in Los Angeles - 8.25% tax for my county) and they have free shipping on the Prism right now. Total cost - $449. Also, I'm not in a hurry, so I didn't mind waiting longer to buy cheaper.

Actually, I think the number one reason to order from Handspring direct is their 30 day money back guarantee, which I assume is with no restock fee. I bought a Visor Deluxe about 3 weeks ago, and ordered from CDW so that I could get it next day. I wieghed it against the Platinum and finally decided on the Dx. After I got it, it was a cool device and I was happy, but one thing that bothered me was the discussion here about upgrading the OS to the latest. After contacting Handspring and being told that no update was planned, and no trade-in would be offered, I felt a little misled and wished I had gotten the Platinum instead. CDW has a 15% restock fee, so what I did was order a Platinum and put my Ice Dx up on Ebay and hope for the best.

Had I ordered from Handspring in the first place, they would have let me return the Dx and get the Platinum instead and I wouldn't have been out a dime. Was it worth the $50 and whatever loss I'll take on the Dx when the auction closes? I dunno, I guess I'll find out in about a year or so.

IF anyone is looking for a practically brand-new Ice Visor Deluxe, it's URL is

I'll include the receipt as well so that you can show it's purchase date for any warranty needs.

Ok, here's the answer I got from amazon:

"I have looked into your order, and we will be shipping this product to you within 1-2 weeks, which is when we will be receiving this Handspring model from our distributor.

I cannot provide the exact shipment date at this time, however, when this product is shipped to you we will send you an email on that date. For the shipping option you chose, it will be an additional 3-7 business days from
that date."

I placed my order on October 17 and made a query about the shipment on November 1.
