Referbished Prism
Anyone out there bought a Referbished Prism from the Handspring site? I am considering what way to go on a color PalmOS PDA and would like to know if this would be a good way to go or not. I currently use my Vx for data mostly and a few games. I would probably need some sort of expansion module so any info on those would also be needed.
I will warn you now, if you are considering going from a Vx to the Prism: The Prism is HUGE compared to the Vx. You will not be able to carry it in your pocket anymore (except a coat pocket.)

I purchased a VDx refurb from Handspring, except for the box, it looked brand new. I would hope that the Prism would be in as good a shape.
As far as expansion modules, I am going to assume you mean memory. Check the VC fact sheets on the 8MB flash modules, and of course, the various flash card adapter solutions available.
I'm using a refurb Prism now. I bought a brand new one and had
it replaced just before the warranty ran out. Handspring replaces
units with refurbs. Works great, no troubles.

Noticed that...
I got a Platinum originally, and had the Targus beltclip for it. With its cover it was a confortable fit. The Prism is a much tighter fit - without the cover... The dimensions are ever so slightly thicker...

Bought Refurbished
I purchased my refurbished Prism last month. I moved up from a basic visor (same size as a delux). I added the sprint digital connection which adds 1/2 inch to the depth and some to the Height. I still have no problem slipping the phone/pda into the prism slipcase and carrying in in my pants pocket. It doesn't bother me at all, and carrying one device instead of two is fantastic.
My associate just bought the new prism with the free camera for 299. If I was buying today, I would get that. Its like getting the prism for 249, just 20 over the refurbished model. The cameral is ultra cool.

Refurbished Prisms on eBay
I was going to buy a refurbished Prism directly from Handspring, but I decided to look on eBay first. Turns out, you can get them on eBay for $199. When you win the auction, the payment goes directly to Handspring's checkout. Shipping is free (or it was a month ago when I did it). Everything is the same as if you ordered refurbished directly from HS, but the price is better.
Here's a link to a dutch auction, closing tomorrow: eBay link to refurbished Prism. I've been very happy with mine, and I'm glad I saved a few bucks via eBay.

Great Deal!
I bought a refurb prism last week from handspring on ebay. Everything works great. What a deal!
If you live in Texas or California, Fry's Electronics shouldh vae refubed ones for about $180. These are just like new! I got my Visoir Platinum (refubed)from them and it works great!

Yup the best place to get Refurb Prisms, Deluxe and Platinums is at Fry's. The prisms sells for $189.00(they had it as low as $169.00), Deluxe for $89.00, Plats for $129.00.
Fry's also has a killer 2 year "no-questions-asked-exchange warranty" for $20.00 extra. The no-questions-asked-exchange warranty would give a replacement of the same pda if your visor fails on you with no hassles. If the visor is no longer available, Fry's will give you a PDA of the same value/features of the same brand or different brand.
For example, my prism has a replacement warranty of a value from $159.00-$299.00. If within two years my prism fails, and the prism is no longer made by Handspring to replace it with, Fry's will give me a Color PDA that is valued between $159.00 to $299.00!!!
Eat that Compusa, Bestbuys or Circuit City!!!

Sad story
I've owned two Handspring Visors, a Deluxe and presently a Platinum, both I've been very happy with so I decided to upgrade to a color unit, the Visor Prism via a refurb from Handspring.
I asked them if the reference to blemishes on the refub only refered to the case and not the screen and they assured me that the screen would be in top-notch shape so I ordered a refurbished Visor Prism Feb. 21st.
I got the Visor Prism and it looked like brand new! Case, screen and all accessories in mint condition. But when I tried to use the VP it was obvious the digitizer was broken and dispite re-calibrating the digitizer, doing various resets (soft and hard) and re-calibrating the digitizer was off by about 1/2" in the upper half of the screen, the bottom half worked fine.
I asked for a replacement due to the broken digitizer and they agreed to send me a replacement that came with pre-paid return shipping for the old one. I got the replacement but the charging light doesn't work (everything else is fine, even the digitizer). I tried all their resets (soft, hard, in-cradle) to no avail, even tried leaving the unit on and recharging several times w/o success.
So I contacted Handspring again (all these calls are toll-calls to tech support) and the support person assured me that the unit was charging if it indicated so on-screen (I knew that but would like the light working too) and to ignore the broken light. I told them I paid for the unit and the light should be working, so they agreed to replace it yet again but I'd have to pay the shipping charges since this was a 2nd replacement (like it was my fault?) After telling them 'no way' they agreed to send me a replacement and they would pick-up the shipping charges this one last time. That was two weeks ago and I still don't have my 2nd replacement.
I called Handspring earlier this week to find-out what the hold-up was, they asked for my serial number again and discovered that the tech support person typed-in my serial number wrong so they didn't send me replacement #2, or bother to contact me.
Now here I am on the last day of the work week waiting for a 2nd replacement that I should have gotten two weeks ago. Somehow I feel like they're stretching out the time so the 30-day return policy would expire (which it did)
So there you go. A month and a day after my inital order was taken and I still don't have a properly working Visor Prism. I would think that my circumstances are a fluke, I still like Handspring products, I still use my Visor Platinum but if I had known the hassled I was going to go through I probably would have just bought a Palm 515. As it is I already bought a 2nd Prism cradle for work, an emergency charger and still own a keyboard and expansion modules which I use with my Platinum. If this 2nd replacement is screwed-up I'll probably just send it back and keep the one with the broken charging light.
Sorry this was so long but so was this misadventure.

Refurb from Fry's
I bought a refurbished unit from Fry's -- no problems whatsoever! Two days later, my husband bought one, too. We were both upgrading from VDx's that we got when they first became available from Handspring -- at that time you could only buy direct from HS! Totally happy all around!
