-- Wireless in Canda, revisited (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9951)
Remembering from previous posts about wireless on a palm/visor in Canada, I don't rememeber there WAS such an option... Today while surifing the net, I came upon Telus (Serving parts of Western Canadian provinces- Alberta and BC), I was kinda stunned to see that the service is here!

I guess it must have been my ignorance and assumption that we would never get it in Canada. For $50, you get unlimited access with a Palm V Mintrel (Now my Main question is whether the Minstrel Visor will be supported)
Also tehre is an option for compression servcie for a one time fee $50

I am not really sure what/how this works but I am sure some of the forum memebers living in the USA may shed some light on this?
I think the monthly fee and this "compression" fee is quite reasonable, now if I can only get them to say "we support the Minstrel S modem for Visor
As an update to my own post, after reading the info on their FAQ
http://www.bctm.com/bc/wireless/unlimitedhelp.htm
Looks like Visor support will be "in the future"
The modems are priced depending on if you sign up for 1 or 2 year plan. Also it is rather obvious from the faq that this "compression software" is only for the laptops.
Guess us poor visor owners will just have to wait.
that's good news(that wirelwess service is available at all in canada), and I'm a little more optomistic than you about the minstrel springboard. We're talking the same palm OS, and likely, the same basic hardware from Minstrel. I have my suspicions that 'visor will be supported in the future' is just an outdated faq from before the minstrel/s hardware became available.
here's hoping, anyhow

Still Waiting
Still waiting for wireless in Canada.. SIGH
Here's an update to the still questionable topic of Canadian wireless for the Visor. I recently chatted with a Fido representative who had this to say:
"The VisorPhone being a GSM 1900 MHz handset, would work on our network. However, this device has not been approved yet by Fido, and is therefore not authorized.
With what's coming up in a short future, the GPRS technology for example, this type of handsets will be surely considered. you may refer to : http://www.microcelli5.com/en/BarPages/index2.php for additional information regarding our future network."
They're moving into an always-on GPRS system, presumably this year, with speeds up to 115 Kbps, so perhaps things will work out for us poor Canucks after all....

I guess the best thing about waiting for wireless in Canada is that the U.S. goes through all the bugs first! Hey I don't mind, gives me a chance to rate the different wireless modules before they get here!
Yeah, I'm really anxious to hear about wireless in Canada too. Please keep us posted Rubberdemon!
I'd like to know how much are you Americans paying for your VisorPhone service?
