-- Visor mp3 module killer? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8178)

Red face

Hmm...

MiniJam and SoundsGood each hold 64 or 128 megs worth of mp3 files. Cost: ~$250.

The new Nomad Jukebox (www.nomadworld.com) holds 6 gigs--about 1500 songs worth--for twice the price in a very portable package that weighs under a pound.

Module, schmodule, IMHO...I don't know how these companies can realistically compete.

Comments?

portability and size..... do I need to say more?
The Nomad Jukebox is as big (or bigger) as a portable CD-player....

I'm not saying that the Nomad is a bad product (au contraire) but it is marketed for a different market...
(more the Dianond Rio etc. market)

If you like the Nomad Jukebox you may also want to look into the portable CD/MP3 players. These players use CD's like a normal CDplayer but can also read CD-R(W)'s with MP3's... very cool stuff...

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

WHat's the point of having 1500 songs if can only listen to 20 of them before putting in new batteries? Waste of money for me.

Try jogging with Nomad. You'd have a crashed hard drive in minutes.

The Nomad is great, but it is not competing with solid-state memory MP3 players. And for $500, I'd rather just by a External Firewire drive that holds twice that amount. (just waiting for a Firewire port on my car stereo |

You might want to consider the MTrip instead. I've been using mine for a little over a week, and I'm totally satified. It's a portable CD player that can play CD-R/WRs as well, so if you have a CD burner, you can put 650MB of music on a CD. The only drawbacks are the LCD display (is too small to show song titles; only track numbers), the small buttons, and the less-than-solid-looking construction. Despite the way it looks, it's a very solid player which I haven't been able to make skip yet. It could certainly stand up to jogging.

I got mine at the above link for $106, but it looks like EasyBuy's selling it for $98 now (I have no affiliation with the company. Granted, it doesn't store 6GB, but if bang for the buck is the primary consideration, CDs are a much better value for MP3 storage that memory-based units. I remain negative on MP3 springboards until I win the MiniJam.
