I have seen the term "upgrade" referring to moving to a better class of device. After using my VDX for a couple of months, I have realized that I would much prefer a color unit for improved visibility. What have people found to be the best way to get rid of their old visor? Do people actually ever "trade?" Is eBay safe and efficient? Are local transactions preferred (I am in Seattle)? Other suggestions?

Ebay

The best way for me is Ebay. Wehn I upgraded my Visor Deluxe to the Prism, I sold my Deluxe on Ebay. A lot of people are wary of the site, but I see nothing wrong with it. My experiences have been very positive. Unfortunately, you wont get much for your Visor now. Visor Deluxes are dirt cheap these days compare to a year ago.

Half.com

You might try Half.com to sell your Visor. They have now become part of the ebay group -- only with Half.com buyers don't bid. You set the price and they buy your item. I sold a prism through half.com and had it sold in a day without a problem at all.

My wife buys and sells on eBay (mostly sells) and has only had problems a few times with buyers. The key is DO NOT ship the merchandise before you get paid, no matter how much positive feedback the seller has. For big purchases, wait until the check clears. Alternately, tell them you will only accept money orders or PayPal. If a buyer stiffs you (never pays) you can get your listing and final value fees back from eBay. In addition, if the buyer does this 3 times, they are suspended for a while. If they do it 4 times, see ya later.

From the buying standpoint, always check the sellers feedback. Also keep a lookout for excessive shipping fees. I have seen some people charge extreme amounts.

Finally, something true for both buyers and sellers, don't leave feedback till you are satisfied with everything. The threat of negative feedback does wonders.

Personally, I have bought digital cameras, memory, and a power supply without problems. My wife has sold a lot of stuff (I gutted my old computer and sold the parts for a tidy sum) without problems. I won my first Visor auction today (a Presenter-to-Go module for $160.00) so will see how that goes.

My wife has also sold on Half.com. It is okay for some things (books, tapes, and CDs) but her opinion is that you don't get as much as on eBay. I do not know if this is true for computer stuff.

Stay away from Yahoo and the others if you are selling. Things don't go for as much as on eBay and of all the times my wife got stiffed on auctions, most were on Yahoo auctions (back when they were free).
