-- Any sucess with Free ISP connections with Visor (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9829)

I have a cable modem internet connection at home but would like to web browse on my Visor Deluxe with either a landline modem or through IR with a Nokia 8290 cell phone. I dont want to have to pay extra money to open up a dial-up ISP account for the limited web use I want to do with my Visor, especially since I am already paying for my Cable internet access. Has anyone successfully used the "free" ISPs out there or do they make it too difficut to dial in without their software? I have already read some info about this http://www.geocities.com/daveinfopa...ot_freeISP.html

Smile success w/juno

i've successfully used freei (before they went under) and juno with both my vdx and prism...there hasn't been any problems with dropped connections or threatening emails from juno...yet. <knocking on wood>

the rasspy program does all of the hard work involved...all you need to do is enter the information into your visor. that is unless you have cable or dsl (like myself).

i had to install a "fake/ghost" modem so that the rasspy program could execute and decipher the encrypted information during the dial-up. luckily i still had my old 56k modem's installation disk handy. i don't know if there's an easier way to do it, but i'm sure that if there is, someone will mention it.

Exclamation Trouble Using RAS Spy

I got error messages (Windows ME) when I tried to insert the rasspy cmd in the target window (as explained on the Rasspy web site).

Can someone tell me how to circumvent the problem !

This is what I did

1) Copied rasspy.exe to the c:\windows\system32 folder
2) Inserted the "rasspy cmd= as instucted on the website (http://rasspy.gq.nu/)
3) windows gave be an error saying that it was not recognized

is there any other way of doing it

You can try adding quotes like this: "rasspy.exe" "cmd=...". I had some problems on '98 that Windows was looking for the executable using the whole name, not parsing for args. Could you give us the exact error you're receiving so we could tell if it's a Windows or Rasspy internal error?

I've got a juno account but can't figure out how to connect using my Vdx and a modem. Can you provide directions?

Thanks

Talking

Got RasSpy working!

One Tip with Netzero:
- My Computer Crashed 1/2 Dozen times when I Raspy'd Netzero.
- I Found out that they have a program file called 'chkras' (Would that mean Check for Rasspy), in the Netzero Folder.
- I temporarily removed that program file, and it worked - no system crash - got an output from Rasspy.

I found this site useful:

http://www.geocities.com/daveinfopa...ot_freeISP.html

Turns out After all that I may Have NO need to use and ISP - since I have a Sprint PCS wireless Web Phone

I may ocassionaly use the ISP to conect via a land-line modem. Oh, Well!

juno will encrypt your username and password information when you log into their service. what you need is the rasspy.exe program.

you'll find the program and step-by-step information at this page jscalia referred to.
