What about the buttons?

I have looked at the Omniremote software as well as that spiffy Sony touch screen remote repeatedly over the last year or so. I have too many remotes and while some can duplicate some functions of the others there are still functions that require the original remote ro perform. And these products would be great to reduce the hassle and clutter of the remotes.

The only thing I think I would have a problem with is using the touch screen. With my current remotes I can find the buttons I want by touch. Since manytimes I will have the remote on the floor while I am on the couch and can just reach down and make changes without looking at the remote. Also I worry about mashing a touch screen button too hard and cracking the display.

Any insights on getting used to not having physical buttons to push? Any comments about the Omni or the Sony would be nice since it is kinda a toss-up between them with a bit more weight going to the Sony since it would be a dedicated unit.

Well my girlfriend came over tonite and as we were watching TV I started fiddling around with my Visor and changing channels on the TV using OmniRemote. Needless to say since my Visor in her eyes is just a calculator she had no idea I was the culprit and started freaking out. She almost went over to the nieghbors to blast them for messing with us...lol Now that was funny...

"How did you get that thing to do that?!?" she says...haha

I've discovered that the effectiveness of Omniremote depends mostly on the TV and not on the Visor. With the Visor's built-in IR I have no trouble controlling the 2 Sony TV's in my house from across the room, but the lone Toshiba TV that I have doesn't work unless I hold the Visor about 1 inch from the IR receiver. I guess some TVs use crap IR receivers and some TVs use good ones.

After first seeing this thread the other day (and now having a CF card to move all my software to), I installed Omniremote on my Deluxe. Works great. My couch is about 20 feet from my entertainment center. I programmed one screen and it controls the channels/guide/menu on my DirecTV receiver, the on/off on my Sony TV, and the volume and mute on my Sony AV center.
