-- Visor Edge in 'The Lost Empire'? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12866)

Question

Ok, so I was flipping through channels tonight (Sunday, ~9:30pm) and I stumbled across this silly looking movie on NBC called 'The Lost Empire', starring that guy from Dharma and Greg. Anyway, in the scene where the guy is getting chased up the mountain by the tiger, the monkey king (hey, I didn't write the story) was playing with the PDA that the guy had dropped and I could have sworn it was a silver Visor Edge! I didn't get a real good look, as it was only on screen for a few moments, but I wanted to find out if anyone else caught this (or am I just seeing things???)

my god. Are you suggesting there might actually be something redeeming about a made for tv NBC movie!?!?

No, I missed it.

That was about the only thing redeeming about it.

I sure hope somebody replies to this thread to tell me they saw it too...I'm starting to worry that I was just imagining it.

Smile Yes ! I saw it too

Don't Worry.
You are not the only one that saw it. I saw it too yesterday.
I can't beleive my eyes either when i saw it.. unfortunately the Edge just show for a few second ( 1 second ??) and i also don't have a chance to take a close look on it.

Yeah... Rob you are not alone. :-)

Bai Ling is hot.

It was thin, it was grayish and it had the flip lid. Could be the Edge

But, In slow mo and freeze frame I didn't notice an IR on the side (either) or the top for that matter. So, may be not.

My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.

Question

You taped it?

Posted by Brajesh108 on 03-13-2001 09:36 PM:

No, that was a Casio device, not Win Ce. It has it's own Palm-like OS. I have seen this device in stores, I think it has 4 or 8 megs for $99, but I have no idea what the OS is like. But definitely a Casio, definitely not the Edge. The edge belongs more to James Bond than Raiders-of-the-Lost-Ark-on-Crack-in-China. My girlfriend taped it for me so I could see the story of the Monkey, Pig, and other guy that she told me about awhile back (She's Chinese). Someone do a search for Casio handhelds, this is their attempt to catch the low end that can't afford a Palm crowd. It might be halfway decent as an addressbook for my dad, but definitely not a Visor.

Yes, and saw all 4 hours in about 1:45 minutes.

Wink

Actually the characters in the movie (minus the dude from the "Darhma and Greg" show) are fairly well-known in Chinese mythology. I remembered my mom telling me stories of the their adventures when I was growing up. I didn't watch the movie. Only glanced at it in the call-room, it looked pretty cheesey, I agreed.

Wasn't the plot essentially Some White Guy saves said mythical figures, and by extension all of China?

It looked like orientalism at it's worst.

Ok, I only watched bits and pieces of it, but I'm pretty sure the white guy saves the whole world, not just China. Also, from what I saw, the white guy was pretty wimpy compared to the Monkey king (but I didn't catch enough of the plot to really even understand what they needed the white guy for, anyway)

Uhm... to sell the movie to the US market? Could be. ;-)

Ah yes, this is of course a ubiquitous theme in ancient Chinese mythology.
