Oh, and flame wars. It's been a while since I've seen a thread blow up over the span of a day. Roughly since bkbk and bblue left, it seems.

All this snow-talk seems to have scared Toby away. Did you nail him too, Yorick?
Or... maybe he's just waiting to ambush all of us? Does it even snow in his part of the world?

And we were happy with our rabbit ears! B/W 9" rabbit-eared snow-falling fuzzy-looking reception, that was state of the art! Darn whippersnappers with their pay-per-view cable 60" 3D HDTV. Ungrateful hooligans! If it weren't for us TV pioneers, they'd be listening to radio, on the AM frequency! grumble grumble ... where's my maypo? )

Not my normal musical taste, but mildly referential.

Care for an update on the 4y/o dilution of my genetic potency?
The mom's were taking shifts for a while. We decided to try a home daycare provider who had an ejumakation. Things seemed to be going ok until my son decided to take a swing at her on the 3rd day, after which he was no longer welcome back. At that point, our intent was to keep him with the mom's for the forseeable future. My wife, however, did catch an ad in the paper for a sitter with 18 years experience. So we figured, 'what the hell, we'll stop by for an interview and see how it goes.'
The exchange that sold me started with my comment that he may take a swing at her when he gets pissed (my wife's a librarian, I'm a computer tech - give you one guess where he gets his temper). She mentioned that she'd be willing to do a trial period. When I asked her if that trial period would be longer than three days, she said that - per her experience - she had found that anything shorter than a couple of months was far too inconclusive as to whether or not her method of care (which bore striking similarities to the moms') was effective. She made the comment that it is usually the parents who know soonest.
She has an innate understanding of childcare that flies in the face of her intellectual prowess. I have to plan 15 minutes of my day to pick up my son, because whether or not I care to, I'm going to hear the same thing everytime: 'I don't know why anyone else had a problem with him...'

I started out working for the wireline carrier, but when one of the brothers bought out the other last year, my department was drawn up to the parent company.

I'd have you send my regards, but considering the best it would sound is, 'some guy I type with on the net says Happy Birthday,' I don't think the sentiment would get through. Still, it's there.

Don't suppose anyone knows if it's possible to get front mount usb working when ones mobo doesn't support it? Is there a pci card with the pin outs?

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Originally posted by Toby Well, the house falling down around us is a non-issue. The structure is very sound. The finishing and detail work is where this guy sucked. Things like installing a non-standard flange in the master bath where the toilet never sealed properly and ruined the floor tile. If it weren't that we hated all the fixtures and planned to change them eventually anyway, it might have been more upsetting, but as it is, it's only inconvenient.

When times are good, contractors can skimp on the details without harming their reputations too much because they're on to the next job, and usually people aren't going to take somebody to court for a bad paint job. Of course, at least now I know what 'average workmanlike job' means in appraisalese.

That guy gets around! I think he's the same guy that built my sister's house here in Houston that I'm repairing, and I also think he did the renovations (I use the term very loosely) on my house in NY state.[...]
