-- Serial HotSync on an Thinkpad 760 (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2168)

Question

I'm trying to get my vdx to hotsync with my thinkpad 760 with no luck. I've been successful by installing my cradle and software on a friend's computer (win98se). However, on my thinkpad (win98se), Palm Desktop does not find the cradle on the serial port. To tell the truth, I'm not even sure that the serail port is setup properly. Has anyone else seen something similar?

Thanks for your help.

Ron

Probably not the same issue, but I had problems with the serial port as well. My visor was telling me the port was being used by another application. This was a few days after I had installed the serial cradle and it worked. I did a soft reset (paperclip in back) and it started working?

Anyway, hoped this helped!

Thumbs down

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to make a difference. Bummer.

When I had a problem like that it turned out to be that blasted ThinkPad: You can either have the InfraRed part working or the serial part.
Just make sure that InfraRed is switched off.
Hope it helps

The Thinkpad 755 and 760 series are notorious for resource conflicts and difficulty in configuring them correctly due to the large number of included devices (esp. models w/ MWave & Video Capture).

Below is a link on Palm's site that has been around since the first PalmPilot was released.

Cool

Yeah!

Thanks, Bluf, Gregg. Both of you were a great help. I'm not hot syncing!!!

Visor! What a machine!

It is possible that your 760 has the serial port turned off...which you can't change in windows. You'll need the PS2 commands (if you don't have them, you might find them out at www.pc.ibm.com). At a command prompt, type ps2 ? sera. If you see that the serial port is disabled, type ps2 sera enable.

Hope that does it!
