I am concerned about the batteries of the Visor. With MP3 player add ons and such, it seems battery longevity is of great importance, but details on this are scarce and seem lacking...

The part about AAA batteries threw me off. While I dont have a Palm, I was extremely impressed by my friends tales of long lasting battery power, with a month of juice with a full charge. Minimal Cradle time brings it back up to full power. That sounds like the brainless convenience that Visor seems to be shooting for....

So Visor isnt rechargable like the Palms are now? Could someone give me a better idea of exactly how Palm recharging and batteries work? Its not standard AAA rechargables is it? Can the Visor use off the shelf rechargable batteries or be recharged in the cradle at all? Is this something that will be upgradeable in the future, or will it require a new model to support recharging?

From What I read in articles, The advantage of the springboard technology will allow the 3rd party modules to also have independent power sources, ie. batteries in the module. So I assume for example the pager module will have it's own battery, etc.

Only the Palm-V is rechargeable all other Palms use AAA batteries. I always have gotten more than a month out of a pair of batteries and I don't expect the Visor to be any different.

Note however that the Visor Deluxe has 4 times as much memory as a Palm III which might cut down battery life.

Initially, I thought Palm V 's rechargable battery was a plus. It turns out it's actually negative, because if you go on a long distance trip, you cannot use extra batteries.

My advise is to use rechargable NiMh batteries. I purchased Nexcell batteries. They last a long time. I read the posting by others from Visorcentral and decided to try myself. You never have to worry about batteries again. I bought mine from www.nimhbattery.com (I have no connection with them).

Well, I'm using an alkaline battery recharger. It charges standard alkaline batteries using some funky cpu routine (I think it pulse charges). I got 3 weeks out of my panasonics before they got halfway down and needed charging. Now I'm on week 2 of some Rayovacs.

One week into my VDX and the batteries are acting just like they did in my PalmPro...

Using standard alk batteries, presently at 88% - and I have been using the thing a lot.

Make sure you do not leave the visor in the cradle. At least with the Palms, that drains the battery.
