Question

While I was using my Prism this morning all of a sudden the "waiting for sender" window appeared. I had beam receive off. I was wondering what could have caused this. Other people were using Visors around me bbut greater than 3 feet away. What could be causing this. I was in the program WardWatch when this was happening.

Thanks in advance

Marc

Question

Hmm...
Funny you should mention it - that happened to me this morning too.

Like you, I had Beam Receive off; but, I don't recall which app I was using. Unlike you, I was not in the vicinity of any other Palm (or similar device) users - I was home, alone.

Hmm....

Wink

Just a guess here, but there is a shortcut that turns Beam Receive on... .i. It's possible that if you were doing Graffiti input that you inadvertently performed this shortcut command (I'm constantly doing the stroke myself, especially when rushing). I think that many people may invoke some of these by accident which in turn causes some of the "mystery" problems we hear about so often.

There's a PalmGear FAQ that describes the built-in shortcuts. Make sure you read thoroughly before trying any of them!

Lightbulb Were you near your laptop?

My new laptop (a Sony Vaio) has the IR port on the side, my old one (a Dell) had the IR port on the back. If I put my Visor near the IR port, Beam recieve will activate. It weirded me out the first couple of times (espceially since the IR beam from the laptop bounced off of the cube wall, so I was getting "Beam Recieve" if I held my visor ABOVE the laptop.

This should only happen if you have Beam Receive turned ON. In the Prefs app under General is where this is controlled. Setting it to OFF should prevent the laptop from activating the Visor.

Wink Laptop getting friendly on plane...

I was using my Prism last night on a plane from Singapore and the IR beaming/receiving kept popping up. Turns out it was the laptop across the aisle, and the guy using it couldn't figure out why I kept glaring at him.

I finally asked him to shift his laptop to see if it would make a difference. No luck (I finally just turned my beaming off). He didn't believe me at first, but it only happened while I was within 5 feet of his laptop.

It killed an hour on a really long flight... Luckily they had some good movies, so I didn't drain the Prism battery playing games.

My theory is, it is related to the increased solar flare activity
