Correction... 5pm Pacific time.

Gives them 3 more hours to 'test'?

Posted by bkbk on 11-02-2000 06:01 PM:

Is there a possibility they'll up the pixel count to like 640x480?
Is it possible via software, or to they have to make a ver.2 of the device itself?
Ditto "cam-corder" capability(ies) - can they do it via SW, or must it be a ver.2 of the device itself?
Finally,
... any word of any of this in the works?

The patch is out there - a 61k zip that expands to a 287k flash update to the eyemodule. It takes it to version 3.5. I upgraded my VPR very quickly and all seems well. It still only takes the 320x240 pictures and the preview screen is still in B&W.

Time to sell the VDX.

Angry Eyemodule Updater has problems

Tried updater on two seperate Visor Prisms, and one Platinum, with three eyemodules, all of them had same problem, at the end of the updater it gives a memory error, wants you to restart. When unit restarts, it gives the same error. When you remove the module from the unit then restart, Visor is ok, but when you put the eyemodule back in, it gives the memory.c error again.

I emailed IDEO and Eyemodule (after talking with their - lets just say uninformed for now - support company they hired) asking for them to remove the updater until they resolve this issue. (this was almost exactly 5pm today PST)

Thumbs up

I'm going to be treating myself to an Eyemodule with the last paycheck from my current job (on to greener pastures - woohoo!) next Friday... I've read many opinions, looked at many snapshots, and I've come to the conclusion that I absolutely must have one. I know the image quality is low, and that it's an expensive gadget. But I just came across an excellent review that sums up all of the information I've been able to glean online about the Eyemodule (Also enjoyable are the descriptions of those who scoff at the thing):

Next stop after the Eyemodule will be Visor Prism!

Ohhh! That explains it! I just got an em for Christmas and I was wondering why only some of my images are speckled. On the whole, that's a rather annoying "feature".

Lightbulb

The Eyemodule would be great if you could email or FTP photos directly from a Visor in JPEG format. With all of the wired and wireless modems available, this would be a 'killer' solution.

Is it me, or is this guy's paranoia just a little over the top? It strikes me as.... creepy.

Talking

It's you, my friend.. HAHA Heh heh. It's all you.

I remember this thread I saw his last post before, but I only read the first paragraph until you brought it up. That diatribe is classic VisorCentral material. I'd hate to walk up behind this guy and say BOO!

For some reason, it seems that mrknowitall believes "creeps" can be id'd by "how they look."

"Seems" maybe, and although I classify a gun-toting/knife-wielding person as a creep, you're incorrect. Let's take a trip down memory lane because to you.. my "ink" is faded.

THE KEY IS TO PHOTOGRAPH PEOPLE UPON YOUR FIRST INKLING OF SUSPICION.

You conveyed that without hesitation, you would take a snapshot of anyone that appears suspicious, and I questioned how you classify "a creep", and what you believe to be suspicious behaviour. I'm sorry... My english is not too good. I'll keep this 'on topic'..

Don't get me wrong.. If the eyemodule had a true zoom or wide angle feature, and I could take a shot of a witnessed crime (when I feel like I should keep my distance).. I'd shoot. I'll add again that the Eyemodule is ok for head shots, but including detailed surroundings? Nuh uh. If you can incriminate me based on the shape of my melon, I'd say you qualify to put "OJs" behind bars. That being said, the eyemodule is not a "stills" surveillance camera.

Heh heh.. I could see someone like this behind home plate at a baseball game back in the 90s when Dave Stewart was throwing fire from the mound. "I tell you, your honour.. he didn't hit the batter but he threw that ball so hard in his general direction.. and boy did he ever have a menacing look."

I'd be upset if you intentionally carried my likeness around in your PDA without my knowing, especially if I wasn't "a creep" by my own definition. Don't take a shot of me because you think or fear I'm gonna do something naughty. Trust your fellow man.. at least until he/she approaches to handshake your neck.
