-- Replacement/Empty Cases? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1516)

Is there a way to get empty shells (front/back, or even just the front) of Visor cases (I don't care what color). I want to try some 'custom' work and am not foolish enough to risk the original. Or is anyone out there doing replacement cases for the visor yet (metal/different colors)??

Thumbs up

Actually, I was searching for that very same thing this morning after noticing the "Pink Visor" thread. I'd definitely get a matching front plate to the one on my phone (a blue lightning Nokia 61xx) if I could find one.

Unhappy

I would love to replace my cracked Visor face-plate with a new one. maybe a different color or design, think of the marketing possiblities.....oops, Nokia already did. After searching around i found some very cool replacement covers in some awesome colors.....oops it's only for Palm III. DAMN!!!!!!
Check 'em out at:http://www.mobilegeneration.com/accessories/coolcolors.htm

I'm sure that, given time, SOMEONE out there will have custom/replacement cases available for the Visors. Only time will tell, however.

Smile

I've emailed Handspring about the possibility/cost of replacement shells, but I've yet to hear back from them. I do agree that someone may yet come out with something, though. Actually, I checked one of the links on that page posted and there _are_ some overlay options already available for the visor: http://www.mobilegeneration.com/acc...exoticwoods.htm

Palm beat HS to it, and by doing this I bet Palm's trying to compete with HS. Douglas Morse also reveiwed the GoStyle on VisorCentral (see http://www.visorcentral.com/vcrevie...id=39&pv=1)

Cool

I emailed Handspring about replacement cases and received an email back stating that the Visor case is not replaceable and that they had no plans at this time to sell them. I hope somebody comes up with different colored cases, it would be nice to change colors once in awhile.

Cool

I'd like to get a graphite bottom for my orange visor. I really don't like the ice bottom it came with.

It would make it look better.

Thumbs down

Can we start a petition or something to get Handspring to sell us some cases?

After reviewing the Pink Visor info, I'm ready to go running out to get some purple Rit Dye and have a purple Visor!

The reason I haven't yet is that I don't want to take a chance warping my only case (in the hot water). Oh, mine's graphite too, so I guess I would need to be getting an Ice one.

I like the Idea too, maybe somebody knows a plastic factory that can make the shells....

I just need to get the exact data of the size of the shell (maybe you could even buy the CAD/CAM files from HS) and create your own.

You might even change the design a bit...

Interesting. Reading this forum as an unscientific survey, it seems to me that Purple is by far the most requested color.

I'd like one as well (as long as it is more reddish purple, and not that hideous deep indigo some people try to pass off as purple)

I'm thinking that if they won't sell the shells, the chances of them selling the design drawings are pretty slim.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of good business reasons to not get into the Handspring parts business. Selling the dimensional data to another business (not the general public) is an entirely different business proposition with different evaluation criteria. Personally, I hope some enterprising plastics business makes a go at it.

I've been writing this guy to have a go at it - he does replacement cases for palm iii and iiic:

http://www.dave.com

The problem is his costs are really high because he uses aluminum parts to replace your case - I'd be happy with plastic...

Favorite color would be brushed aluminum look of most other gadgets (diamond rio 500...)

Handspring has all ready given away the technical drawing for all of the visors. they are here http://www.handspring.com/developer...chanical.jhtml.

Good going!

Kudos to LiquidOxygen for finding that. Now I'm going to check with anyone in my hometown that does custom CNC billet work and see if they can use it.

(Also, remove the period at the end of the website address from the previous post to have the page load....James could you adjust that?)
