Syncing with Win2K (multiuser system)

I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten this to work.

I'm running Win2K on the computer at home. It's set up as a multiuser system with a proper root, and less privelidged users being the family members.

Win2K supports USB, so there's no trouble with that. I can synchronize easily as long as I'm logged in as administrator. However, I cannot seem to sync when I'm logged in as myself.

This is going to become a problem soon, because we'll have multiple users on the system with PDA's and I'll need everyone to be able to get to the cradle as their own username.

Is there a permission somewhere I don't have set for hardware access in Win2K? Is it impossible? I've tried making the Palm directory and all the files under it accessible by everyone, but that doesn't seem to affect things.

The Hotsync locks up at "Determining User Name" step running as a user. As I said, as administrator, it works perfectly.

Any ideas?

If I recall correctly, the Palm Desktop configures some registry keys for the current, logged in user. In order for the Palm Desktop to work correctly, you will have to temporarily give each user administrative privileges, and install the Palm Desktop in each profile, then change the user privileges back to what they were. It appears to be a "quirk" in the way the Palm Desktop is designed. You can find reference to it in this excerpt from Chapura's web site:

Thanks. I'll give that a shot tonight and see if that will do the trick. I wonder if it's the same for the Quickoffice software as well. I'll have to try that.
