-- Soft Resets Daily? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10327)
I seem to be doing a lot of soft resets with my Visor Deluxe. Every time I replace the batteries, every time I take out the 8Mb module and put in the backup module, and now just swaping the 8MB module with the Springport modem requires a soft reset. Is this normal? I bought my Visor last June and it does have the memory problem which was patched, but I think I'm having to do a reset too often.
Appreciate any opinions.
Before removing the modules, are you returning to the launcher screen? Removing a module while an app is running from it can cause resets. Also, with the SpringPort, make sure you're using fresh batteries in it. It's known to cause resets when the batteries are low. Another tip: download and install dbScan. Run it on the VDx to remove the duplicate shortcuts created everytime the unit is reset (a bug in the OS).
If none of the above helps, you might want to do a complete backup (search the forum for information on how to ensure you backup everything) and then hard reset the device.

Similar problem...
I'm also having a problem required multiple soft-resets, but this just started happening to me. I've had my VDX for a few months now, and have had no problems until today. So far it's only happened twice, but I'd like to head off a more serious problem, if this suggests one. I'm syncing the VDX to a WIN98 machine through my USB port. I sync the standard apps plus Outlook Express, DayNotez Desktop and Avantgo.
In order to sync, I have to soft-reset first. Otherwise, I get the message that the desktop is not responding. I've checked the cable connection to the USB post, various options, cold-booted, exited and re-started HotSync Manager, etc., but am still clueless as to why this may have started happening.
Suggestions?
Helen
Soft Resets
Hey MarkEagle, thanks for the reply, on Christmas Day no less!
I don't use a launcher, just the OS launcher, and yes I'm usually not running any other programs when I change modules. Still locks up, frequently. Usually, when I take out the 8MB Flash Memory module and put in the Backup module I have to do a soft reset to get the Backup module recognized. Same for the Springport modem. Both the Backup and the Springport work fine after the soft reset. When I remove each of them and put back the 8MB Flash module I have to do another soft reset.
I've done a complete hard reset, ie., went back to original config., no hacks or anything and it does the same thing. I have no problem synching. I'll load the dbScan to look for duplicate shortcuts, but that doesn't seem to be a problem.
Thanks for the help. Merry Christmas.

Oooohhhhh...is that what all those "starter" things listed in the "delete" dialog box are? I was wondering why the list was getting longer!

I have just tried dbScan and it found 250 redundant shortcuts and only 18 good ones. Are there any other usefull utilityes like this one which make life (with Visor) easyer?

Any Answer to Helen5's question?
I am having the same problem Helen5 describes above. I need to soft reset to synch to my office computer (Windows 2000 and Outlook 2000). If I don't, I get no response from the desktop. I do not have this problem at home (Windows 98 and Outlook 2000).
Any thoughts, or the same suggestion regarding the duplicate shortcuts? (I am going to try out dbScan now.)
Thanks.
Erice
You said it didnt recognize you modules when you put them in? I have found the same problem when I have been beamed a program. it won't show up until I soft reset. But I have found that it will also show up of you run a program and then exit back out to the launcher. Too bad the palm OS doesnt have any sort of "refresh" for the programs list.

Well, I've done everything I can think of and I still have to reset my Visor everytime I do anything other than use it. I guess resetting the Visor after installing new batteries is normal? Right. Gets a little bit aggravating having to unscrew the end of the stylus and punch the reset button all the time. I don't noramlly use the Visor stylus anyway.
I haven't ever used the "beam" function, in fact, it's turned off to conserve battery power. Doesn't seem to be anyone around where I work that uses a palm or Visor.
Oh, well. Maybe it'll get better when I buy my Prism...someday soon, I hope!
