Unhappy Visor Dx keeps "timing out" during Avantgo hotsync...

Very often, my Vdx has a problem during hotsync, ONLY when it is hotsyncing the Avantgo conduit..

Could it be because that my computer is also connected to a Palm IIIc that runs on serial port??

Before I had the IIIc (I'm not using it) on my PC, my Vdx had no problems syncing...

Please advise.. Thanks.

Are you exceeding the limit?

From the support pages @ Avantgo

quote:
What is the sync limit?

Mobile Internet limits the amount of data that can be transferred in a single sync to 2MB and the amount that a user can sync in a day to 20MB. These limits are in place to ensure that every user is able to sync quickly.

If you're syncing too many channels with high maximum channel sizes, links, or images, lower the amount and see if it helps.

Check your sync logs. If you see a timeout error (6410), then all you need to do is go to the Palm Web site and download the most recent version of the hotsync manager. This was a bug with hotsync manager that is fixed in the latest version. I am currently using it to sync a Visor Delux (USB), Palm 505 (USB), and Palm Vx (serial) without problems.

What version of the HotSync Manager are you using and/or the version of the Palm Desktop? This sounds like a known problem with the HotSync Manager that came with Palm Desktop version 4.0, when syncing Avantgo via USB. The problem was supposable fixed in the HotSync manager that comes with Palm Desktop version 4.0.1. Since this computer is syncing both a Visor and a Palm IIIc, I would recommend using the HotSync Manager that comes with Palm Desktop version 4.0.1H (the one distributed by Handspring). If you where also syncing an m500 or m505 (or other PalmOS device with an SD slot) I would recommend the version that Palm distributes.

Sorry I did not have the version numbers of the HotSync Manager. All I can say is that I am currently using Handspring's distribution of Palm desktop version 4.0.1H, which comes with HotSync manager version 3.1.2H.

Wink Thanks~

Hey guys,
Thanks for your quick replies... I really appreciate it.

Well, I'm using the Palm Desktop 4.01 by Palm Inc... HotSync Manager is version 4.0

Well, I just downloaded the Handspring version. Hopefully it works

Thanks again. Will update the status of my problem soon

This is something I have noticed. It you have created your own custom channels then I suggest that you change your Avantgo settings for that channel to refresh daily at a time before you normally hotsync. Then it does not have to generate your channel on the fly during the hotsync. I find this works much better and loads just as fast as a regular channel.

Let us know if this works for you.

Talking It works~

Thanks all you guys

I downloaded the Handspring version of Palm Desktop and it works flawlessly! Thanks all you guys..

It was a long 11MB download... but it was well worth the wait...

Well, I didn't have any custom channels.
I had only the following:
-VisorCentral
-CNN
-Straits Times (Singapore newspaper)
-Football365.com (I'm a football fan)
-PalmInfoCenter
