Question Cannot import vCal / vCards

I am running Handspring's version of Palm Desktop (ver 4.0.1) on a Windows 98 SE machine.

I cannot figure out how to import vCal / vCards. I have an option on the File menu to export vCal / vCards but there is no option in the cooresponding Import menus (File->Import) for those file types.

I have tried double clicking on a vCal file in Windows Explorer. I get a "Cannot find the file "..." (or one of it's components)" error messages.

Any Ideas???

When I installed the desktop, it asked me if I wanted the desktop to be the default handler for vcal/vcard. I said yes and it added registry entries to launch desktop for the .vcf (VCard) and .vcs (VCal) extentions.

Look at Tools->Options General tab on Palm Desktop.
At the bottom, there is a vCard/vCal assocation startup check.
Make sure the checkbox is set (and press the Make Default button if it is not greyed out.)

Also, if the Desktop options check out ok, make sure the files you are trying have the proper extentions (.vcf or .vcs).

Good Luck.

I also took the option for "Desktop to be the default handler for vcal/vcard".

When I look at Tools->Options, general tab on Palm Desktop, I see the assocation startup check. The Make Default button is greyed out.

The file I am trying to import (test.vcf) I created using the File->Export option from desktop. I have also tried to import two other files (from friends using Outlook) and they do not work either.

One more idea...When I look at Help->About, then select the 'more info' button, I see a DLL called Versit.dll. It's description is 'vCard & vCal support DLL for Win32' and it has version info of 4.0.0. What does your's say?

Any other ideas???

I was out for a few days - sorry about not getting back sooner.

My dll is also versioned as 4.0.0.

I exported my vcard, mailed it to myself and it went right back to the Palm Desktop when I launched it.

I'm running Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2.

I'd try re-downloading and re-installing the desktop.

Good Luck.
