Lightbulb

I really enjoy the freedom Memplug gives my Prism.
The ability to read books from it is what sold me.

What other applications would you like to see run off Memplug?

My top two so far (due to being memory hogs):
1. Mapopolis
2. Avantgo

What does everyone else think?

AvantGo would be the one for me. I know TealPoint is working on MemPlug compatibility (I've bought TealDoc and TealInfo) which will be super! They'll probably have it finished just about when I get my MemPlug.

I would really like to see WordSmith add support for the MemPlug and also MarkMyScriptures (MMS). MMS takes up around 3MB of space.

AvantGo would be nice, but to make it work well it would almost have to sync directly to the card. Otherwise you would have to manually copy all the data over after each sync.

I agree with the others, but I would also like to see MyBible work with it.

Every company I have contacted about it says they are either working on it or will consider it.

I would like to the ability to use folders in a doc reader.

AvantGo - don't hold your breath!

AvantGo with Memplug support would rock, but I don't think it'll happen. It's one thing to enable a program to read from the Memplug-- it's another thing entirely to enable a hotsync conduit to save files to the memplug automatically during each sync.

The 2 apps I'd pay $50+ each for if they had memplug support? Adobe Acrobat for PalmOS and WordSmith.

Guess I'll chime in here too...

1) AvantGo would be nice, but not likely given the conduit directly to sm card issue...

2) MyBible would ROCK! I have even considered trying to convert the NIV version to a .doc file so I could use CSpotRun to read it off the card. Cumbersome to do and I would lose a lot of functionality of the MyBible reader though. Laridian? Are you listening?

3) TealDoc - cool to hear Tealpoint is working on it...

4) Handheldmed's DSM-IV. Again, I think it is an e-book version, but it uses their reader I guess. Maybe I'm wrong and it could be read using a regular doc reader? (Doesn't matter - I'm not buying it until I know more about its reader... oh yeah, and until I actually GET my memplug...)

5) Wordsmith too. But I won't buy it either until they incorporate tabs and tables in the app. I use a lot of tables in my reports, so Wordsmith is useless to me right now. Will be nice when they get it included.

But why are we all specifying stuff here? I would just prefer PI works out something in their software allowing ANY app to be run from the card...

Not sure if you are interested, but you can download the Old and New Testament from MarkMyScriptures because they are in DOC format. They use the doc and an Index file which means you could put the DOC on the MemPlug and view it in CSpotRun. You basically get a really LONG document and no features, but it would do the above and would not cost you any time or effort.

MarkMyScriptures

1) Acrobat (or other PDF reader) $

2) iSilo (the documents I need start as html or pdf) $$

3) TealMovie (until gMovie adds audio) $$$

4) EyeModule2 (it's scary what I would do for 128 MB of removable EyeModule storage!) $$$$

5) GeoView Mobile (even after they get the MMC slots working for the Geode, I don't want to have to always carry the Geode to check a map) $$$$$

I'd like to be able to run Magellan Map Companion from the MemPlug, those map databases take up a lot of space.

Even more than that, I would like to be able to transfer docs downloaded to my Visor into a particular directory of the MemPlug, so that, for example, books could be downloaded to my PC, hotsynced to the Visor, then copied into Palm\Programs\CSpotRun so that CSpotRun could find and open it. Similarly, I'd like to be able to copy jpgs from the SmartMedia card to the Visor so that I could view them in Album to Go, rather than the MemPlug viewer.

1. This isn't that big a deal, just copy a map over when you need it. Most people use the Map Companion with the GPS inserted anyways, so you'd have to move it to RAM anyways.

2. To transfer a file to a specific directory go to the directory on the MemPlug that you want in transfered to > go to interna > check the app you want to move/copy > and transfer it, it should show up in the previously selected folder on the SMC. (Took me a while to figure this out also)

3. That would require converting the image to Album to Go's format, which isn't probably possible.

MemPlug's AutoCF ability

Hi

1. I'd pay $10+ for the AutoMove ability.

2. And I 'd sell my blood to get $50+ for the AutoCF ability.(Direct Run application like 8MB Flash Module)

3. PI, I want to have a 64MB or maybe even 128MB Flash Module

There are much simplier solution...

It's completely not necessary to made MemPlug clone for every cool Palm application. We just need to have one system utility for MemPlug which will map any Palm Database to SmartMedia and it will be enough to have MemPlug support for any Palm application.

Actually Sony's CLIE user already has this kind of software called MSmount - http://www.geocities.com/nagamatu/MSMount/index-e.htm

Uhm...which just goes to prove what an idiot I am. Of course you're right, how could I use both my Magellan and the MemPlug?

And which further goes to prove that you are a genius. How did you figure that out? Why isn't it in the manual or FAQ?

Say...could I just attempt to withdraw here gracefully, with whatever is left of my dignity??

yes, an msmount program is exactly what we need, has anyone bugged portable innovation to create this type of software???

A friend of mine who was lucky enough to actually GET a Memplug early on (ordered from Palmgear the day they were announced as being in stock), said he has talked to PI about this. He told me they said they were "70% sure" they would be able to accomplish this (getting the memplug software to allow apps to run directly off the sm card), but that they couldn't "promise anything just yet."

I emailed them to confirm this report, but they never returned my email.

Hmmmmm.....

While I don't mind being called a genius , I didn't figure it out myself - I saw it in a previous MemPlug thread. I agree that this need to be something added to the FAQ.

By the way, when is the next PiTech newsletter comming out? I remember they had a FAQ in that (Which actually had some wrong things in it, like a reply on how someone could use both a SmartMedia card in the MemPlug & the MiniJam.)
