-- Windows ME and Visor (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8113)
In case you were wondering, Handspring's product support page states that the Visor IS compatible with Windows ME. The updates & support page also lists and updated version of the installation software (dated September 14, 2000) that is compatible with ME. (Note: after clicking on the link and entering my serial number, the actual download is still the one from March for Windows 2000. Maybe that will be rectified on Monday.)
Has anyone upgraded or installed Windows ME yet?

That's funny... I just bought a new computer with WindowsME preinstalled a few weeks ago & installed Palm Desktop right from the CD that came with my Visor... worked with no problems at all.
From what I understand, though, the WindowsME upgrade really buggy compared to machines that come with it preinstalled. The consensus I've read seems to be that a lot of the problems people are having are due to bad driver management.

Upgraded my computer to Windows ME and have had no problems sync my Visor
I have had Me installed on a dual boot system (using boot a mngr to switch between 98 and Me) for about a month and a half. A little problem getting Me to install the correct video driver, I had to start in safe mode and set the correct driver myself. Other than that Me hasn't crashed once. Media Player 7 works GREAT over a DSL.
No problems synchronizing my Visor

I hear that there are a lot of problems with Windows Me especially relating to drivers. My WinMe upgrade was problem-filled, but the Visor software worked just fine with no problems at all after the upgrade.
I haven't tested it myself, but you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the software again.

I had been using WindowsME during its beta.
You will have less trouble if you upgrade from 98 than if you install on a clean system.
In either case you do want to latest drivers of all the hardware you have.
BTW, I no longer use WinMe because, at least on my system, I could never get hotsync to dial up my internet connection so that it could get mail and update avantgo. I would always have to manually make the connection before I hotsynced.

Is this really the case? I would have thought exactly the reverse, that a clean system install would be less troublesome than an upgrade from 98. [/B][/QUOTE]
PDA,
Yes it is. WinMe seems not to have the amount of drivers included that 98 had.

Update, I just installed Win 2k, and it kicks ass. Best microsuck software yet. Now I need to download the Visor software from the Handspring site.

300 posts, YEAH!!!
Yeah, I just tried out Windows 2000 on my system too and it really is the most stable and user-firendly OS Micorsoft has ever made.
Strange...it even runs faster and better on a lower-spec machine than Windows 98

Yeah I've been running 2K for a few months now and have only a few minor bugs with it...mostly games but then again it was never really meant to run games. It has to be the most stable of the windows systems out there and I for one don't see myself using win 98 Third Edition...I mean ME for anything at all. If your a geek and know your way around a computer 2000 is best suited for you.

Windows ME
With me (no pun intended) I had my Visor go into a reset loop the first time a did a sync. Glad I had the backup module as I had to do a hard reset. Too bad it had been three weeks since I did a backup.

I get this with EVERY Hotsync:
OK Mobile Application Link
System synchronization failed
HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)
Any thoughts.
