Post

Hi:

I was trying to set up my visor so it would sync via the lan to my laptop, and can't seem to get it to do it.

Has anyone done Lan syncing that could give me a hand.

My desktop machine does see the laptop and they are both on the same subnet, and I have the visor pointed to the laptops IP address, but just does not want to see it, it wants to sync with the desktop.

The reason for this is that I installed an anypoint network at home (10Mbps, works great) but it uses the usb port on the laptop. I can take the cable out and sync normally, but since I have these networked together, wanted to do this from a convinience basis, since I keep the same info on both machines (personal and business related.)

Thanks

Mike Vidal

I can't answer your specific question, but another option is to pick up a USB hub. I'm using a Belkin 4 port hub that I got at CompUSA for $30 with a Anypoint network and I haven't had any problem with it.

this may be a dumb question, but i'll assume you 'unchecked' "Local USB" and checked "Network" on your Hotsync icon?

Yeah, I was thinking I may have to go to that route. I want to get a CD/RW anyway and I am out of slots on the desktop for the IDE drives so this would be my only option and I have both the USB ports tied up already.

Thanks for your help.

Actually, if you do that then it won't work, as it gets not comm with the connected computer at all.

On the PC that you are connecting your Visor to, it should not have your visor name checked in hotsync/setup/network. Your laptop should have this checked.

On your visor under options/LANSync Prefs select LANSync

Under options/Primary PC Setup setup the information of your laptop.

When you are connected to the first PC and perform a Local Sync, Hotsync will forward the sync to your laptop.

I use this setup with the hotsync cable and via IR hotsync.

I don't understand, since I have it set up this way, and it insist on doing a local sync, not syncing to the laptop. What gets me is it ask for a pc name, and I give it the name of the laptop and it can't find it. What it is using the the domain name (mavidal.psn.net) and not the name I give the laptop in network neighborhood (which should be the netbui name).

This is frustrating and the documentation is not that good.

On your laptop, "Network" must be checked to work. You can leave the other options checked also, but it wont work unless "Network" is checked.

On your desktop system (the system connected to the Visor) do not "Check" your Visor's name in the "Network" section of the Hotsync setup. The laptop should be the only one that is setup as the "Primary PC".

That is how it is set up, it just does not want to go to the laptop. I even confirmed the settings and tried it again and it still syncs with the desktop, and ignores the laptop. I wish their documentation on the CD was better, but this is puzzleing. I have set up stuff much more complicated than this, but I just can't get this to work.
