Yes, InnoGear did meet the deadline. Units were coming off the production line yesterday and today and shipments began yesterday.

A larger shipment is going out next week, but probably won't begin until Wednesday because of the Labor Day holiday.

Whe I was just looking on the Handspring site it gave a date of Sept. 14, 00. Maybe that's when their planning on doing full shipments instead of these partial ones.

Look again BEN -- that was Sept. 14 '99 . And that was simply the date of the press release that originally announced the Minijam...

Arrow

I called Innogear today & mine hasn't shipped yet. They told me basically the same thing they told kingjames. I think my order # is in 1600's and I ordered on 7/12.

I placed my order on 7/12 as well and my order number is in the 1700's. When I talked to a rep on 8/30 he said they got a shipment of 100. If they're only getting 100 units at a time, which I hope they're not, it could take forever to get mine. Does anyone know how large the next shipment will be?

I've got order number 355 & I just called to check on the status. She told me that I would be out in the next batch, but she didn't tell me when that batch would go out.

We'll see....

I just saw that there is a new MP3 player for the Visor shipping next month... If Innogear doesn't get those units out faster, they are going to lose some of their customers to "Good Technology".

New MP3 player from Good Technology:

I didn't see where I could use their memory for things other than MP3's, so I'm still holding out for the MiniJam - for now...

I tried the link to the home page and got a blank screen. I was really hoping to see pictures of the unit and a detailed info page.Guaging from the press release, it seem that the Good Tech unit and the MiniJam are equally matched except for the higher price. But I think I'll stick with the MiniJam. Looking forward to James' review tonight!

YIKES! 100 at a time! , what's that other page, http://www.good.com?

(rechecked my order number, it's in low 1200's and I ordered on 7/10)

So far all we know is one person got one, I'd feel alot better if other people who have already got their units posted messages.. It seems kinda odd that the only person who got a unit so far happens to run a highly respected Visor website.. (doesn't this strike anyone else as a bit odd?) Maybe just luck???

At this point, I am not expecting mine till Halloween.

Talking

Just talked with the folks at Good Technology. Their website should be up at about 5 p.m. Pacific time. I'm told it will have lots of info and pictures of the new MP3 player.

Unhappy

im never getting mine if they are only sending out a hundred at a time. i ordered mine on july 26 so my order # probably resembles the national debt.

Well, narnia_77, it looks like you'll be waiting for your MiniJam. I looked at the Good Technology site and found no mention that the SoundsGood could store files other than MP3. I doesn't even look like the memory is removeable or upgradeable for that matter. And that color, ewww. I'm not bashing but atleast the MiniJam comes in Black and Ice. I'll keep waiting for my MiniJam, also. Come on Innogear!

Thumbs down What other files?

By now you may have read James' review, where he mentions that the MiniJam doesn't store files other than MP3 either. At least Good never announced that capability in the first place. We'll have to find out more about the software end of the SoundsGood, but on the hardware end, the superiority of one over the other is hardly clearcut. I like the fact that the SG doesn't seem to stick out of the Visor, and I don't have a problem with the color (with my Graphite model). If I were in the market for an MP3 board, I'd wait until after all the shipping issues with both products are past and get a number of opinions before committing to either.

This sucks. Although, the way these things are shipping, the software update MIGHT be out by the time I receive the unit. <sigh...>

Question

Narnia:

You'll probably want to call or email Innogear to find out if multiple-file storage can by supported through an upgrade. Remember, the first feature dropped from the MiniJam, voice recording, cannot be added through an upgrade.

Cool SoundsGood

Well, I did it. I cancelled my order for a minijam and placed an order for Good Technology's SoundsGood player. Why? I get the feeling that I can trust GOOD.COM to deliver the goods on time. They've obviously spent a lot of money creating a strong image and putting the infrastructure in place to handle the company's growth. It's sad but funding IS and important part of a company's success.

Innogear...well...just look at their website. The information is stale, the design is hokey and produced by an outside firm. I believe they've got a good product and will eventually overcome their growing pains but let's face it...they're not off to a good start.

Posted by swendor on 09-09-2000 02:24 AM:

jorome:

Is the belief that Good Technology can deliver as promised the deciding factor for your purchase of their MP3 player?

I hope not because it seems that they just came from nowhere. How many of us have heard of them before this week? I would be wary of a company whose website just came online a few days ago. Just because a company has funding doesn't necessarily mean that it can put out a product on time. Innogear's been around for a year, we've heard from them talked to them, and they've participated in a few discussions. They can't put out a product on time. Nor can Microsoft, IBM, etc. However, they do have one product out.

Technology wise, I still like the MiniJam. It comes in two colors, has removeable upgradeable memory and will later have the ability to store programs and files on the MMC's. It also include 2megs of flash memory and bonus programs. BTW, it is also cheaper.

If GT can deliver the goods as promised, that's cool. I just don't think it's wise to go with a company just because they promised a delivery date.

Posted by skaman35 on 09-09-2000 02:45 AM:

i assume that good has been around for awhile, they just made the descision to come to the public close to the time that the springboard would be available as apposed to when it was in production and could face many more risks.

Wink

MiniJam is better value hands down. Some people are just bitter because of Innogear's delays.
